Deutsche Lufthansa AG - A Star Alliance Member - The Airline Network For Earth - has unveiled profits in H1 of €332 000 000 / US$325 028 000 - surpassing analysts expectations.

Analysts were expecting a H1 profit of €192 000 000 / US$187 968 000. Revenue rose 4.7% to €8 200 000 000 / US$8 027 800 000. In FY01H1, Lufthansa posted a loss of €27 000 000 / US$26 433 000.

Lufthansa already raised it's profit expectations from €400 000 000 to €500 000 000 / US$489 500 000. However, the airline says if the German economy picks up in H2, it could be higher.

"I think the outlook does look already very conservative, taking into account that normally the first half is the weaker half of the year," Bankhaus Metzler analyst Juergen Pieper said. "There's good reason to believe that second half conditions will be better than the first half conditions."

Great news from a great airline!

It seems that in Europe Air France and Lufthansa seem to be the airlines that have very well coped with the new situation post 9/11.

well done for LH.

I am always surprised by how quickly ( and sometimes very conservatively) they react to market realities and how carefully they try to seize new market opportunities.
Now, time to redo this bloody tight C class....

Correction, the term profit implies operating profit. Net loss came to €27 000 000
