United Airlines will expand it's presence between Miami and the West Coast this fall and winter with the addition of two new scheduled services. A second-daily Los Angeles service and a third-daily Denver service, both operating with A320 aircraft.
The second-daily service to Los Angeles begins on Halloween. It will operate with an A320 from Los Angeles and a 757 to Los Angeles. United currently operates one daily 777 on the route. In addition to American's seven times daily service (5x from MIA and 2x from FLL), this will bring the total number of flights between Miami and Los Angeles to nine.
The third-daily service to Denver starts 12 December. It will operate with an A320 in both directions. United currently operates a daily A320 and daily 737-300 on the route. In addition to American, Frontier, and Spirit's each 2x daily service on the route, there will be a total of nine-daily non-stops between Miami and Denver.
The new frequencies are not major additions, but signs of United and the Star Alliance's ongoing commitment to the Miami area, where they are constructing the new Star Alliance international terminal at a cost of $800M. United and it's Star Alliance carriers offer service from Miami to Chicago O'Hare, Denver, Los Angeles, New York City JFK, Orlando, San Francisco, and Washington Dulles in the USA; Frankfurt in Germany; Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, and Vancouver in Canada; and Belem, Buenos Aires, Cancun, Caracas, Manaus, Montevideo, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Santiago de Chile, Santo Domingo, and Sao Paulo in Latin America.

DKR, thanks for the heads up. Makes sense because the JFK flight feeds mainly the GRU/EZE flights, and IAD is getting those 28 October. At the same time, what does not make sense is if UA expects to create a major operation in Miami without serving any NYC-area airports. UA always has had MIA-EWR service during the winter, but that is also not in the scheds yet. I think they will bring back MIA-LGA, though. MIA-DCA has not come back, though, no signs of it returning either, unfortunatley.
