With the news of an impending order for about 13 Airbus aircraft and 3 Boeings (Justplanes.com), I was just curious if anyone had any idea about when the 743s will be replaced.

Has there been an anouncement? Anyone?

Thai is planning to replace two of its 747-300 by the year 2005 as I have read from the national newspaper.

I believe they plan to get 3 744ER's along with 13 Airbus aircraft. I like seeing the 743's aswell as the 744's in AKL just for a change a classic is nice!

Correct. But why the B 747-400ER? Why not the QLR?

I don´t know when the 3 744ERs will be delivered to Thai, but they could get them quite soon if they wish. If they would wait for the "Q" it´ll take some time, apparantly not before 2005 as it looks like now. Boeing is in talks with RR for a new Trent 600 engine for the proposed new 744 derivative. This engine, superior to the improved GE-propulsion planned so far won´t be available before 2005. But I guess this new engine would attract more customers, because its a total new construction meeting the strictest future noise regulations.
