Next Monday (Feb. 28) there will be a forum in Mexico City do discuss about the new Airport in Mexico City. The government has finally decided that something has to be done, and a new airport needs to be built or the Benito Juarez Int'l Airport will be overcrowded by 2005.

The probable places are:
Either Texcoco or somewhere in the state of Hidalgo. I believe that Texcoco is the best option, because it's not so far from Mexico City as Hidalgo is.

Hola Ricardo, ¿cómo estas?

So finally something is being done to make plans about the new airport. That's great. Let's just hope they really get to conclusions on this forum.

I agree with you, Texcoco would be the most convenient place, since it's just a few miles from the current airport. Tizayuca, Hidalgo, is too far away from Mexico City.

Gracias por esta información Ricardo, es bueno enterarse de una noticia asi.

Hello MX-757. How are you?

Great to hear that the gov is finally starting to think real hard about the future of Mexico city's international airport. It seems eminent that they had to do something. It's just common sense to improve and expand the infrustructure so that growth can be achieved by the commercial sector. Once this growth does occur the gov. and everyone will benefit. First of all the airlines will enhance and efficientice their operations which will stimulate more jobs and more jobs means a better standard of living for the people. A better standard of living will bring more tax revenue for the gov.

Getting back to the point. I think it will definitly work out for AeroMexico and Mexicana. With this new airport it will turn Mexico City into the best super hub in Latin America. Take for instance Santiago de Chile. Thanks to the fact that they decided to build a new airport with new terminals Lan Chile like the other Chilean domestic airlines have flourished and turned Santiago into a very efficient connector point.

I really hope that they decide to build this airport in a strategic point where they can look towards expanding for the next 50 years. I really don't know where Texcoco or Hidalgo is but I think Texcoco is a dry lake bed that is on the outskirts of Mexico city.(From what I have heard) I have heard that Hidalgo is far away from Mexico city which makes sense to build an airport at such distance because it would insure that it has ample space to grown and it would be strategically located far away from the smog of Mexico City.

Well its nice to know that they will hold this forum at the day of my Birthday! This will go down in history!

By the way, I saw on the news yesterday that Taesa has now officially declared itself bankrupt. Allegro has already received the rights to take over all of Taesa's dormant routes to Tijuana. such as: Mexico, Guadalajara, Aguascalientes and so forth. Is Allegro currently just a charter airline? They fly into Los Angeles and they even have their own counter space located at the Northwest terminal, so therefore it makes them the 4th Mexican airline that flies into Los Angeles. However, they only fly here on a charter basis throught a company that sells vacation packages to Mexico. Does anyone have any info on them or has anyone flown on them. I recently read a post here about an aircraft of Allegro MD-80 that broke down in St. Louis. I just hope that Allegro doesn't become the next Taesa....

A very, very, happy Latinplane
