Just book a flight for my summer holiday to back Hong Kong from Melbourne, I was told there will be an additional flight for CX to MEL

details as follow

CX115 19:25 HKG- 0725 MEL
CX114 08:45 MEL- 14:50 HKG

My flight going to HK will be in Nov and returning to MEL in March, and there are additional flights in both dates, but i am not sure if CX is actually going to add an other flight in winter timetable or just a number of flights during peak time.

All flights will be running by A330, not sure if they are with new Y class one.

Just a sidenote......

I live in Auckland, and we now have 10 flights weekly, by A340-300, to Hong Kong! I thought that Melbourne have quite a lot of immigrants? Any idea why they have less capacity there?

Heehee, Cathay250, booking for that ticket already? I had to book mine in July to get a seat! It's sold out now, for November!

just called to Marco Polo office, they said there will be 3 additional flights a week. So Melbourne will have 10 flights, same as Auckland. But luckily, all we have here is the new one with new Y class.
I think there are quite alot immigrants in Melbourne, but there are a lot more students studying Melbourne like myself, so they never have much problem to sell those seats in this route.

Jesseycry, i just book today and chose my seat from Marco Polo already  Smile

Do they use the 744 or 333 on the Melbourne run? Or do they alternate? And do they still route Melbourne via Adelaide?

In fact there'll be four extra flights.. if you would take the trouble looking it up on the CX schedule instead of calling the MPO club you might get more accurate information  Smile

I'm guessing it'll be from the A340-600s! That'll free up some A330s, I guess. God, I'll be so jealous if they fly A340-600s to Melbourne, before flying them here, to Auckland. I hope they don't mean A340-600 by "EQV".....

As show in web site, new flights are all operated by A333, the regular CX104/5 are EQV except Tue and Sat via ADL one are operated by 74B, so chances are we are going to see every kinds of CX aircrafts here. However, i think A346 is not likely, as they have 60 Y class, it just doesn't make sense to put in the MEL-HKG run

All stored aircraft are now back in service!!

CX put EQV in their schedules alot on alot of different flights.

It also looks like Brisbane will get a 5th weekly A330 service non-stop both ways!

I would love to see the A340-600 in AKL though as well as more 744's this summer!

Cathay250, do you mean 60 J class?

I heard that Sydney would be getting the A346s, I doubt that mel would be on the priority list to get the A346s.

HKG- MEL has become a quite popular route due to the fact that more and more Hong Kong students choose to go to Melbourne for their studies, and quite a number of chinese residents living there. Don't forget that Melbourne is also a quite popular leisure destination!

One more thing, Ansett doesn't fly Hong Kong - Melbourne, but it seems that QF or CX did not increase flights on this route immediately if I'm correct.

I got a friend who's flying SQ MEL - SIN - HKG back to Hong Kong in September, and she told me it was only lately that SQ could put her on the confirmed list.

Best Regards

I heard from a bloke who works with the Cathay Pacific staff at Melbourne airport & he said that Cathay actually want a double daily service to Melbourne, however Qantas was being a bit of a thorn in their side, putting up objections to CX increasing their capacity!

BTW, on the news in Melbourne tonight, they stated that last year Melbourne was the only airport in OZ to report an increase in international pax numbers - up 1% (not much!), equating to an additional 50,000 pax. Sydney by contrast was down 8%! Interesting! Sydney though will always be the preferred gateway to Oz! I noted that SWISS airlines want to fly to Sydney sometime in the near future too!

Cheers, BZF

Cathay Pacific, I bought an Asian passport ticket for 6 flight coupon, the price is 1700, i will depart on 28 Nov, 90 days ticket. If CX from SYD is 2100, will it make sense if you fly to MEL by DJ, and take the CX flight from MEL?
