From end of this year, early next year, the following changes are planned:

QF
LAX-SYD: looking at restoring daylight service if demand increases
LAX-MEL: will be operated by 747-400LR at full capacity. Currently, 59 economy seats are blocked off and no cargo is carried southbound.
LAX-AKL-BNE: will be operated by 2 class 747 with no first class. Unsure if will use 747-300 or re-configured 747-400.
DFW-AKL-SYD still no news. ORD also a contender instead of DFW.

FJ
LAX-NAN extra services being examined (now 3 a week)

LAX-AKL-BNE hmm 2 class service well these aircraft will have more seats 447 if I remember correctly and this route is almost always full, it should be a 744 not a 743 as a 743 has a shorter range.

I heard that QF planned to add another 4 flights weekly to LAX from SYD.

Hopefully either ORD or DFW are introduced via AKL, I doubt AKL-ORD could be done non-stop.

FJ used to have 5 flights when they had 2 742's now just 3 so they would need another aircraft to operate more flights!

Good new for QF.
At night times at LAX, the airport is full of QF crew and pax. There are Australians everywhere, more than any other pax in the int. terminal

After the chaos at Auckland as Qantas tried to send the B747-338 up to Los Angeles with passengers being paid to wait until the -400 the next day I think they will find a -400 somewhere! Even VH-NLH is a better option.

Also we will get to see some different QF744's on this run!! I wonder if OJB will go 2 class? Then LAX spotters will get to see it.

So the 743 couldn't fly non-stop AKL-LAX without weight restrictions, I think the 742 did it fully loaded, QF had 1 or 2 742's do this flight back in June!

Qantas was sending its 743 and 742 up to LA from Akl only a tempory schedule this was because they had a great Y class seating compliment and where being used to operate LAX to HNL supplimentary charter flights. This also gave QF the chance to put a 744 into maintainance for seating upgrades. The DFW flight is going ahead come the end of the year and will operate SYD - AKL _ LAX . this information comes from the online QF cabin crew websight.

A day flight to SYD from LA would be awesome for those of us who can't sleep on planes (but do like to drink on them!) and have to do this run 2-3x a year...

I doubt that OJB will go two class.

Any idea which 744s are going two class?

Hello ETA Unknown,

Your figure about the seats wirthdrawn from sale on the LAX-MEL sector seems to be rather optimist. I did some research work for an article about Qantas' 747-400s to be published on my website, and the the information I got was that restrictions were more in the 100-150 seats range. There's probably a winter/summer calculation difference here.

BTW, you had told you me you'd contact me via e-mail on the NWA/Australia story almost a year ago. I'm still waiting...  Smile

Little correction: 80-100 seats and not 100-150. Sorry!

Is QF the only One World airline operating LAX-SYD direct, the others being indirect?

I also heard that QF was still looking at a new destination in the U.S being Dallas or Chicago. I also heard that if Swiss joins Oneworld Qantas will consider flying to Zurich so passengers can move more freely around mainland Europe instead of having to back track from heathrow, this would also free up seats on QF/BA London bound flights.

Also what do you think the chances of QF returning to China, Vancouver, or Mumbai, or increasing flights to New York or Honolulu.

Interesting times.....

Australian Airlines could take over it.

Australian Airlines even planned to fly Eastern Europe.

I always thought that Mumbai was a good route for QF because it was a daily service and they were even replacing the 767s with more and more 747s.

there is a feedback section which answers questions regarding future routes etc etc.. and Dallas has been confirmed but no start date as yet..
I dont know why everybody is getting is such a fluster about Qantas flying to dallas its not as if its ground breaking..or exciting..its gotta be one of the most boring cities on the face of the earth..

Beno,

I think Australian Airlines will fly to Athens and possibly India. I don't think QF or AO will fly to Canada as it is not viable. I have also heard that QF is planning to return to Shanghai in its own right given it's increasing importance as a business centre and Chinese financial centre.

Does anybody know how the 3 x weekly New York services are going? Remembering that this once was a daily service prior to Sept 11.

I remember when QF started the New York service as a 3xweekly it than went 5xweekly and then daily all within a year. Not sure how its going at the moment but it must be an important route for QF considering they returned to New York very shortly after 9/11.
