I have a question. In May I did MEM-AMS on a MD-11. I have been booked for this flight for December 12th but I have been getting conflicting information regarding the aricraft used on this route. In December is it a MD-11 or a 767-300?

Between 14 Sept. and 30 Mar., MEM-AMS on KL is a 767.

Ok thanx. I was really hoping it wouldn't be a 763. The WBC seats are the old kind that don't go to far back and have limited legroom. Myabe I'll try to fly out of MIA or something.

SR103 - why don't you go MCO-DTW-AMS and connect to the KLM 747 or MD11? You'll get the nicer seat, get to experience the phenomenal terminal in DTW and you'll get more miles!

AZJ,

I was just thinking that. One of the plus points about MEM is its a late flight, arriving in AMS around 12:30 and my connection to Kuwait is 16:00! When I did MEM-AMS earlier this year I arrived at 8am and waited till 16:00 for the KWI flight. As much as I like Schiphol, I am not spending another 8 hours at AMS with nothing to do. The lounge does not have free internet and no hot food, just snacks. I might take the last DTW-AMS on NW's D10, but I have to check if I can change my ticket as it is printed with MEM.

Regarding the phenomenal DTW, January 6 is KWI-AMS-DTW-TPA-DAB! So don't worry, I'll be going through it on my way back! Wink/being sarcastic

I'll let you guys know what I will do.

Oh by the way, AZJ, did you read my last trip report on NW? I never saw a comment form you?

Yup, I read your last report. I think I had just got home from a 6 day trip and I was way too tired to reply. But it is nice to hear about your positive experience on the red tails. What you experienced is the NW I know and enjoy.

How I miss the days for Christmas and summer break when I got to leave for Hawaii (especialy the 4 month summers we get at Riddle).

Your a Riddle grad? I had no idea! As of right now I am still booked with KL from MEM. The one thing about the DTW-AMS-DTW flights is they tend to have grumpy crew for some reason. I just hope I get lucky on my next one. Everyone that has done AMS-DTW seems to have the same comment, "the crew are the worst in the industry!"

Yup, I went to Riddle PRC from 1995-1999 and then instructed there before getting on with Mesaba. Hey, if I'm still employed and still in MEM when you pass through we should meet.

If you get the KLM equipment from DTW-AMS you don't have to worry about the senior mammas on NW working. Or, might I suggest a cheap MCO to EWR/BOS flight and then over on NW fom there. Sometimes those gateway flights are worked by JFK crews or BOS crews and are great. Of course, it is definitely hit and miss when it comes to any sort of service... people are people and not always perfect.

I would love to meet you in MEM, but I just took your advice. I changed to MCO-DTW-AMS-KWI on the KL 747. This brings another question.

What aircraft is AMS-DTW? 744 or 743? I can only find 747 and KLM does not differenciate between the two on its website.

Regarding comming back, I have to do the AMS-DTW run so that I can connect to the TPA-DAB flight on CO. The first AMS-DTW flight was the only way. EWR-DAB was more expensive than this run.

I do travel through MEM often enough though, so if I am ever going through again, I'll definitely let you know! Big grin

Sr103 - good - glad you've got the KL747. This summer when flying in DTW it was always a 743. But, that doesn't mean they won't send 744s this winter. Perhaps somebody with more KLM fleet routing info can help you with this one.
DTW is nicer than MEM anyhow...
