This is interesting.
It seems just last year CSA dropped Bangkok in its attempt to focus on NOrth America, as its Asian services were not profitable.
This will be its only Asian destination, which will also be a new market.
I wonder if they are aiming at Czechs going to holiday, or a new cheaper back door market to Europe via its Prague hub.

hi

do you have any info if the flight could be code-shared with ,say, AF ?
AF isn't flying to CMB so that could be an opportunity within skyteam

Well its great news for Sri Lanka, as it continues to go from strength to strength since those airport attacks last year and with the peace talks well under way in Thailand and assuming all goes well (fingers corssed...), there is a bright future for Sri Lanka. I wonder which new airline will be next to introduce flights into Colombo.

CB777,

according to Airliners World mag. CSA is looking for A330 and B767 as a replacament for the A313.

Also, they are looking for a new RJ.

Cheers,

I doubt they would codeshare this with AF.
I just checked the Czech Airlines web site and from what they are on about, it appears the main market is Czechs seeking sun and sand.
Apparenly the Sri Lankan authorities are trying to get Aeroflot and PIA back to Colombo.
Im sure there will be another airline adding Colombo before the year is out.

Aeroflot will use the A310 to Colombo once a week on Mondays. The return service is non-stop (CMB-SVO), but I don't know where the SVO-CMB service stops (it does not stop in MLE).
