Yesterday while spotting in Hong Kong I saw three SQ -400's. There are 9V-SMA, 9V-SMC and 9V-SME. These are the 1st. 3rd and 5th to be delivered to SQ.

This is only a question but I was just wondering why these old aircraft seem to be in Hong Kong so much ? . I'f I'm not mistaken A,B,C and D are for sale.

9V-SMA is the 2nd to be delivered to SQ, first is SMB.

Why they're there? I guess cos SQ views HKG as a 'low' priority route and perhaps they dont have sleeper beds... or it could be... just a coincidence.

my guess is because they want to save the new 747s for the long haul flights, like to LAX or LHR some of the higher money maker routes

Makes sense to fly planes with less amenities on short routes; hardly need for a sleeper seat on SIN-HKG. UA did the same with their 742s; flew US Mainland - Hawaii at the end of their life with UA. I guess SQ 1/2 SIN-HKG-SFO would get the newer 744s but that flight leaves HKG late for SFO and arrives HKG early on the return from SFO. The777Man

Need a Boeing 777 Firing Order....Further to fly....LX and LH 777s

I think it's because the newer 744s, with the sleeper beds, are currently under maintenance for the installation of the new Spacebeds OR they just happened to all be under scheduled maintenance.

Mainly because there are not too much competition for first class on SIN - HKG, plus they also send B772s and B773s to Hong Kong which also have no sleeper beds.

For all your info, SIN - HKG - SFO always and gets skysuite aircrafts, I think after skysuite was installed on most of the B744s SQ1/2 has never recieved the older B744s.

I flew both the older and newer B744s on HKG - SIN, last time back to Sydney via Singapore it was 9V-SMA.

Best Regards

Those old B744s fly not only to HK, they do fly to JNB, BKK, CGK. They are right on why they send the B744s to places like these.

Once those old 744s found a seller , those planes will be sold immediately right ? Since other B744s are already busy , I guess they will be replaced by 772s and 773s am i right ?
