Hi everybody,
I might be going to London for two days and am planning to stay at the Ibis Airport Hotel near LHR so I can combine aircraft spotting with my duration in London.
Can anyone tell me if this hotel has a nice view on landing/departing or taxiing aircraft from LHR? I've seen posts/threads of the Renaissance Hotel as well which appears to have a good view on one of LHR's runways and a good view on terminals 1, 2 and 3.
Can anyone tell me if you can reserve a room and pay at the lobby? I don't have a credit card, so I can't reserve a room on-line.

Hi i work for a hotel reservation company and the Ibis hasnt got good views of the runways really. the Renaissance is the best by a long way but depending on how much you want to pay it can turn people off. how much you gonna pay at the Ibis?? £69.95 i think thats it. any way at weekends the cheapest is around £80 - 90 depending on offers. You can book a room and pay at reception but you need to contact the hotel direct. then its either on a 4pm release where you loose the room at 4 if you havent arrived or you can confirm a room by sending a fax confirmation.

The best view, without a doubt, is from the Renaissance. I've stayed there close to 50 times since the days when it was the Penta and then the Ramada and I've never been disappointed with the view. It is one of the few buildings on the SOUTH side of Bath Road, which gives it an immediate advantage over most of the others. Make sure you request a runway room.
On the Terminal 4 side, the Hilton has a decent view from one side. Unfortunately, I've always been in rooms overlooking the A30 so I can't comment firsthand.

I have visited the Ibis hotel two times, and there is only a small number of rooms wich look towards the airport. But if you are lucky, the 3rd and 4th floor gives a splendid view to the rwy 27R approach, the BA maintenance building, and the Terminal 1.
But the best advantage at Ibis, is that it is just a 10min. walk from the hotel-room, to the best spotting places at approach to rwy 27R.
