British Airways continued to struggle after the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks as shown in its August 2002 traffic statistics.
The number of pasengers carried continues to decline year on year - 9.2% down. Africa and Middle East experienced the most decline - down 17.5% while the Americas saw a decline of only 8.9%.
Revenue passenger kilometre / yields fell 10.1% overall. Africa and Middle East saw RPK down the most - 16.5% while Americas saw the best RPK performance, down 7.6% year on year.
Capacity fell 11.6% with €urope experiencing the biggest cuts - 16.7% and the Americas the least with a 8.8% decline in Capacity.
Passenger load factor however rose 1.3% to 76.3% overall with the €urope performing the best, registering a 5.4% increase in load factor to 73.7% and the Africa and Middle East experiencing a fall in load factor of 3.4% to 75.9%.
Total cargo tonne kilometre / yield went down 6.7% and capacity fell 10.8%.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines saw a 2% decrease in revenue passenger kilometre and a 3% shrink in capacity.
KLM Cargo saw a 6% growth in revenue cargo tonne kilometres but a 1% decrease in capacity.
KLM Passenger load factor was up 0.6% to 84.2%, while KLM Cargo load factor increased 4.9% to 69.5%.
Overall load factor was 79.3% - up 2.5%.
"In KLM's opinion, the traffic results emphasise the company's ability to effectively gear capacity levels to traffic levels," said the Airline.
"Market conditions are continuing to recover despite global economic headwinds," said Richard Brakenhoff, analyst at Dexia Securities. "The business class load factor improved again, which in our view will result in a favourable (average fare) yield development."
