Funny how the route I would like to go on isn't listed on the website...

Extracted from my local newspaper story on the 30th August:

"And on October 27 German Wings, a fledgling budget carrier set up by Lufthansa, will begin a twice-daily service between Manchester and Cologne."

Guess I'll have to go to DUS instead.

David

On their web site they wrote:

The first low-price German airline is about to take off!

Isn't Fly-DBA the first low-cost German airline??

Why in some destinations like Milan and Rome, they choose the main airports MXP and FCO in spite of BGY and CIA??

I opened up the link and I just got a page with something in German, no picture of the plane and apparently no link.

The site is online since a few hours, many of my colleagues including me have already booked several flights with GermanWings. By the way, their IATA airline code is: 4U.

Today, Buzz has started to sell tickets to Germany for cheaper than ever: 21GBP one-way (tax included). The cheapest FRA-STN-FRA return I have found was 58.00€. This is definitely not a coincidence that they started this special offer on the same day that Germanwings started selling tickets. http://www.buzzaway.com/

I just had a look at the website and now I am trying to decide if I want to see FCO or CDG... I guess Paris would be better for spotting though...

Is Rome still warm in December?

Max,

there is very high traffic on the GermanWings website, if it is not possible to book a flight you must try it again and again and..... but if you try long enough it works.

A few guys and girls from EW and me just booked a trip to FCO on the last November weekend, this is what I call a "Betriebsausflug" Big grin.

Patrick

Btw: 58 Euro is even cheaper than an ID tix for that route.

Is it just me, or is that livery a blatant rip off of Virgin Atlantic's fuselage (right down to the titles) and Hapag-Lloyd's LCC's black and yellow colours?  Nuts

They seem to be under quite a pressure...
Every page duplicates itself when loading....(so with my I-EXplorer browser)

But livery seems to be quite attractive..whew!

I wonder how far the preparations are... Will they be ready in time? Are there already any aircraft reserved for them etc.??

German Wings will use five A 319 and one A 320, these planes are flying at the moment for the Eurowings Flug GmbH (the charter subsidiary from Eurowings Luftverkehrs AG), after the summer timetable these six Airbus will become the German Wings fleet.

Thanks Frederic, I am looking forward to the weekend in Rome, you should see the girls who will join me on the trip Big grin. I booked also two flights to Spain, one to BCN in November and an other to MAD in December but these trips will be for spotting only.

Is that the A320 from Lufthansa? I thought it was going back to LH after six months...

I thought the same but I read in our employee magazine that this plane will also be part of the German Wings fleet.

Well, fares from London to Germany (Cologne) for a midweek flight in November are very reasonable, at 19 pounds each way, from Stansted.

Looks like they've just got themselves a new customer, and I'm looking forward to my first vacation in Germany!  Big thumbs up

Go Germanwings!

Today at 6:00am, D-AKNJ was ferried from STR to SEN. SEN is Southend I think, so I'm sure that D-AKNJ has left today for some re-configuration work and repainting into German Wings colours.
