Hi everyone!
I'm just amazed how this Algerian airline, KHALIFA AIRWAYS, has grown very fast. They are expecting some new 777 very soon, and are building a whole new city in south bound Algiers as a new and modern city like Dubai. The Khalifa's training center will be set there with 2 fullAxes simulators A340/A330 ,1 A320 and 1 B777 Simu!!
More 3 A340-500 are expected for the next year added to 4 A340.300 already in service . Khalifa moumen has recently bought his own 737BBJ ,and created this week his own TV channel ,KTV...u can check it out on www.ktv.com..or Khalifa.com.
I have never seen that before, someone who gets an empire in 3 years of business and never get any profit in what his doing....or else it does very much.
you guys have an answer at that?

Khalifa also owns a bank and is active in the oil business. He also took a stake in a big German construction company (Holzmann) as far as I know and is currently in cooperation talks with Lufthansa and planning to take over Air Algérie.

Hello,
That's pretty surprising how someone can build an empire from scratch! Is it really?
Well... A reputated French magazine, Le Point, had an article about Mr. Khalifa a few months ago. It was stressed that his empire was built with money that no one really knows where its coming from, and that his spent at an incredible rate. Profits? No one really knows...
Le Point reported that the financing of this empire-mania has origin "in the Middle East"... Well, I will not complaint as long as they buy Airbus airplanes and sponsor a French football team. But still, I'm a bit puzzled.

Hi,my company wet leases B737 s for Khalifa. And I fly nearly 5 mounths a year for Khalifa Airways for wet lease.I am also pretty amazed the development the airline made. But Mr Khalifa's wealth is not coming from only the airlines,he pretty much owns the half of the country as well.He has banks, ships, oil wells,a lot of business' in Algeria, and France as well.He also owns one of the famous French first division football teams. When we first get there almost 3 years ago the only aircraft they had was one of our B737400s.After some time my company provided 5 737's.And still there. But they are growing constantly. They bought some percentage of AirAlgerie the national airline of Algiers. And also Antinea Airways(a small private airline which owns the rights to fly to some destinations in France.)He didn't bother to obtain the rights to fly but he simply bought the airline itself.I am not sure that the airline makes profit enough at least to grow that much in such a short time(and I dont want to comment on this)he still is a very rich person which rumoured that wealth is more than couple of billion dollars.

Hi WINg....are you flying for the Pegasus airline? cause they have some 737-8 leased from Pega. If you flew with them, where in algiers do u stay(Sheraton hotel?) ,and how's the life looks like for you guys there?

Yes I am flying for Pegasus .We have 2 -800s,3 400s flying for Khalifa. In Algiers we used to stay at Shereton but we changed it.Which I dont want to mention for safety reasons(no ofence to you)but safety is the main concern we have in Algiers.Lots of friendly people, a lot of things common with us.But this terror with the extremists and now with the seperatists is a avery big stepback for this lovely country which can be easily a tourist heaven in mediterenean with its advantage of proximety to European countreis. And also politics is very bad(as its everywhere)but there is a very big unfair difference of earning between some elite class and the public.Other than that we have nice friendships but personally I try not to leave the hotel and safe areas too much just for precaution.I 've been and stayed everypart of the country its a very nice place visit. But if you want night life its not the place to be.Although there are some nice clubs to go but still cant compare with the place I live.

I quiet understand that...it is true, it's a beautifull country ,specially when you overfly the desert . But everything has been ruined by some politics people and islamics silly stuff.
Even in the airline, the requirement to be accepted for a pilot training has nothing to do with your own value or the basic requirements to be a pilot such as have some degrees. Khalifa has sent 300 students at Ofxord flight school, and i can tell beside 1 or 2 ,none has this knowledge of how an airplane could fly. they have been accepted just because they know the boss of the airline operation or have some pull strings....and u finally see aviation lovers that tried to get into this training but just because they know anyone this the company, they've been pulled away...it's just not fair. that';s the way it works in Khalifa airways, everyone makes it's own profit..and they even buy the ATC's controllers to get the first parking place or have the right of way start up and rolling before any traffic.

Where did you hear that Khalifa is getting 777s ? From what airline ? Are they getting the ex-BA non ER 777s (G-ZZZD-E) ? Any idea when they are starting routes to the US ? I read a while ago that they were to start flyng to PHL and NYC. They don't seem to have too many long haul routes (JNB, DXB and ???) and still have 3 or 4 A340s. The777Man
Need a Boeing 777 Firing Order....Further to fly....GA, T5, CI and LX 777s

I've heard that from some people working in the company...they have already bought the triple 777 flight simulator. The only long haul served are Dubai,JNB,Comores island, and Jeddah (saudia)....the authorisation of flight in the US and Canada are still pending!

That is actually true. But this happens everywhere in Algeria.İt just became a life style not to respect others rights as far as I witnessed. Both Air Algerie and Algerian Khalifa pilots lie to have priority for descent clearence, start up clearence. And they speak in French so only English speaking foreign crews dont understand where actually they are.It happened to me couple of times that other traffic which I have TCAS contact that he is behind us lies about his DME distance to the fix so they start descent early(there is no radar coverage)what we do is when we have to enter a holding since that guy already turns to our descent path. Also its not rare that anti collision light starts rotating and atart up requested but still stairs on the other side of the airplane.I just can't understand the logic of it but still flying over the desert with sunset is breath taking view of red sands looks like Mars surface, and also pretty chalenging to land a desert runway without ILS and VASI or PAPIs at night.Feauterless terrain makes you feel like landing on an aircraft carrier(but a longer one ofcourse)

hi
this khalifa's story is revealing the way Algeria is functionning today: a minority puts its hands on the $ coming from Hassi Messaoud oil fields and use it to nonsense : buy top notch airplanes when you have no rights to fly and no routes to serve!!!!!
will we see daily A340-500 on ALG-YUL and ALG-JFK ? give me a break!!!
like so many Algerians have the $ to be tourists over there....and many U.S. citizens dream to fly to Algeria were the streets are so peaceful.
for a long time we had Khalifa planes just hanging around @ CDG : A310 and A340....since they had no traffic rights they would operate so called tec-flights !!!!!
do you know any "normal" airline flying EMPTY large aircraft from one country to another just to "train" crew ???
the A340 flying ALG-JNB usually carries 30-40 revenue pax... and now they need a 777-300 is that right ??
there has been enormous rumors on this airline and the Khalifa empire...one day will come when the truth will burst out

Well don't get it wrong Varig, the algerians have money to travel and that's not even the case as you can find them everywhere in the world, spoecially in europe and Canada. Some 3000 Algerians living in the US, but i agree that's not enough to open a weekly service to North America, but the idea is to favorite the HUB in algiers ,just to carry people from North Africa or Africa to north america, and it could be a lot cheaper then the Royal air Maroc.
Beside Many americans Oil company are settled in south Algeria , and many US employees get it hard to travel every month 27 hrs of trip to go back to US via europe .
For the Info, the A310's are about to be removed one by one next month .
But I'm still wondering how do they get all the money?? even richard Branson haven done that fast!
you can say now that Khalifa airways = Emirates airlines strange ?

for 3 years I have been one of the French Customs "responsable de sureté" supervising Air Algérie's operations concerning safety of checked baggage @ CDG1 so I know a thing or two about Algerians !!
I know some Algerians have a lot of money, more than I could earn in my lifetime!!!
but the majority of Algerians are simple people with just enough money to live and not enough money to decide, out of the blue ,a leisure trip to America.
that was my point
the idea of a hub in northern africa is a good idea though
but to my mind, secure traffic rights 1st, then buy the planes!!!!

you are right Varig, but i'm not talking about Algerians living in Algeria mainly, but all Algerian immigrants living in europe and elesewhere.
If you work in CDG , you could Notice or before they moved to Orly that Air Algerie is one of the most important traffic in Paris with more then 14 daily flights to Algeria, no counting LYN and MRS with Khalifa it's even more, specially during the pick summer times. A HUB in Algiers could be something very good if only they decide to finish this "New" airport that have been started up bulding since 1987 and still not finished yet because no money??
I find it ODD to see A340's ,B777 and the whole Boeing serial in the Algiers parking with a 60 years old airport !
Khalifa is going to build his own airport not too far from algiers...which coud be a good thing somehow!

Khalifa was/is supposed to start scheduled service to AMS tomorrow (after they first intended to fly to AMS last Monday). However, nothing is mentioned in the CRS (Amadeus) and the OAG doesn't list AMS-ALG flights either. Needless to say also nothing visible on AMS website. They probably forgot to apply for slots (to my best knowledge Khalifa doesn't have slots to AMS and also didn't apply for slots for winter 2002/03).

it's a good website, but still doesn't say where does the money come from.
The first flight for AMS is due for tommorow, but they didn't say anything about it elsewhere not even in Algeria's news paper. Air algerie have tried this route to AMS in the early 90's but didn't work out ...will it change now?
