Didnt DL already have service to Providenciales? I think that they already tried flying to SXM and then cancelled the service after a few months...Am I incorrect?

Liberia is becoming a hot spot, AA must be planning a nonstop flight- they cant be behind in any Latin American country . Grupo Taca/Lacsa is another airline that could have pionereed a nonstop route to Liberia but they let NW and DL go ahead of them . I read that Delta was interested in flying to Santo Domingo- what has happened with that?
A route that Delta should consider reopening is the SJU-MCO route, dropping it was kind of dumb.

It's good to see DL building up service to Latin America and the Carribean. They can now further their lead in the region over United's and get a solid third after AA and CO.

GO DELTA!!!!!

It is nice to see Delta opening some new markets in this region, which will become a major component of the world's economy in this coming century.

On a business side, I see this as a response to US Airways. As it has been said, DL and US are going for each other right now, so DL is responding to US' addition of Caribbean flights and adding a few more cities down there.

Chepos, AA is strongly considering launching Liberia-Miami service this winter, and the Delta announcement will hopefully advance that decession. LACSA has flown the route in the past. And, as you said, LIR is becoming the next hot spot in Latin America.

MAH4546,

I'm sure that is first-ever schedules as for the new nonstop from ATL-LIR flight as for itself. That is more than world busiest hubs with the 194 cities into the Delta Air Lines as for itself. I do have a lists with the cities and I will send one as for you soon, ok? I did type it down with spreadsheet at the my computer. So do you need this one as for yourself. Please let me know! Thanks!!

Sounds great! We're looking at going to SXM in the near future & DL can be an option now!

I agree with Chepos about SJU-MCO- I think they should bring it back.

...and while on the subject of possible service restarts:
Any chance of DL going back into STX?

If your talking about St.Croix it's not a very popular tourist destination, St.Thomas and ST.John are the big tourist destinations in the US Virgin Islands (i've been there 4 times Smile ).

St.Croix has the largest population and biggest industry, Hess oil has a huge refinery there. CO used to carry alot of Hess folks between St.Croix and Newark near Hess's headquarters in Woodbridge.

Even AA flew to St. Croix from NY, now there's only one flight to MIA on AA. Everyone else connects through SJU.

I saw one of those AC-130 gunships on the ramp parked next to our CO 727 taking us back to EWR in '94, it was most likely taking part in training excersise on the nearby island of Vieques.

I think this is a good move on DL's part. DL needs to find ways to get more revenue during the winter months. This is one way to do it and I think the routes will be successful. I think the Liberia route will be the most risky and it might take a while for the route to fully develop. However, if DL is patient enough, the route has the potential. Hopefully, DL will formally announce St. Kitts shortly and more to follow.

I also agree that part of this move is aimed at USAirways. This announcement, along with DL's expansion at DCA, are DL's attempts to build up, before the U/UA codeshare goes into effect. DL has to do everything possible to counteract the revenue that will be lost once U/UA are codesharing.

I think DL should add Belize next....just to really make life hard for US.

Hey guys....
I worked inMCO and the MCO-SJU flight was horrible. It was only full around holidays. Is usually went out with 70-100 pax on it and that was it. A L-1011 was really wasted on that trip. AA has that market with 3 a day and ATA has 2 I believe. And for St. Maarten...Dl was going to start there but then Hugo went through and ripped it all apart.

I was looking at the SFB website yesterday and I just found out that Vacation Express/Pace Airlines also flies to LIR , I believe they fly from SFB to LIR two times a week.
Delta 728 Spirirt also flies from MCO to SJU with one daily flight.

Chepos,

Are you sure about that didn't know that about SFB-LIR flight by Pace Airlines on the B737-300 as for now. I do know that about very popular beaches at Pacific Ocean as for itself by the islands. It will be first schedules as from ATL-LIR flight on B737-800 aircraft. Now, DL have a been very long world of busiest hubs with more than of 200 cities. Whoa!!!

I think delta will be successful on the Liberia route. Liberia, and the penninsula its on is a huge tourist area, and is hell to get to from SJO. Its also got great surf so you can count on my nonreving this route at least 3 times this winter  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

In addition, there is a charter company in Miami offering what I think is 4x a week FLL-LIR service as a scheduled charter. They uses Planet Airways 727s.

Rumours are that DL will also start non-stop flights to Curaçao of the Netherlands Antilles in February or March 2003. The government of Curaçao is in negotiations with DL for a non-stop service from Atlanta to Curaçao which was operated by Air ALM in the past. This route was a succesful route the time it was operated by Air ALM.

Hugo was like 13 years ago...I swear though that DL had started ATL-SXM service in 98, 99, or 00, but pulled out only a couple months after serving the route.

I will ask someone about that I do see remembered that one as for the last time were use nonstop by B737-800 or B757-200. I will hope that will have to do it again as for back into SXM flight.
