Alitalia is cutting domestic fares up to 70% on some routes and by an average of 30 percent on all the network from Sept. 15 until Dec. 15 in a new ticket-price promotion.

Alitalia said passengers will be able to save up to 40 percent on the full price of a ticket on routes such as Naples to Venice and Bologna to Rome FCO. For these and other domestic flights, the lowest prices will now be 79 euro ($80) roundtrip.
Also one-way fares without restrictions are available from 40 euro.

The cut will affect about 100,000 passengers a week, about the 30% of available seats.
On the most busy business routes only 5-10% of the seats will get the new fares in peak time, but in the middle of the day and during week end up to 70% of the seats will be available at the new fares.

Alitalia - which was already losing money before the Sept. 11 attacks and posted a 907 million euro net loss for 2001 - post for the first six months of 2002 a loss after taxes of 49 million euro and now they confirm after the great results of last summer to close 2002 near break-even before taxes.
