During an upcoming trip I will pass through (among others) Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Islip Mac Arthur Airport.

Any suggestion if spotting is easy at these airports or what I can do to waste some time is appreciated.

Setjet, How much time will you have at SLC? You can email me and I can give you some places to spot depending on time.

Greetings:

Well at my home town airport ISP you'll see a lot of Southwest 737's. You may get lucky and see Arizona 1 it's been there a lot lately. Mostly CRJ's and ERJ's from Delta, AA, and CO, Delta Express also serves ISP. Trump keeps his 727 at ISP, if you drive down Ronkonkoma Ave and pull into the HTC hanger parking lot you can get a really good look at it, it's a great looking aircraft.

Regards
Tom

Setjet, If you only have a little bit of time and no car or anything, you can head up on top of the terminal 3 or 4 parking structures. You can get great great views of everything on the east side of the airport. One of the best spots in America IMHO. If you have a car, you can head over to the south side of the airport, just west of the FedEx/UPS ramp, there is an FBO called Cutter Aviation. There is an observation deck, with a great view of the business ramp, and of aircraft touching down on runways 7R and 7L.

Beefmoney:
Thanks for the info, but are you talking about PHX? A couple of years ago I remember that you had a great view from one of the parking decks.

J.mo:
You got mail.

PHX:
the upper floors of the parking structures are great-BOTH sides....I don't remember the parking deck numbers, but if facing east-it's the 2-tallest parking garages looking east-you'll figure it out-utilize both sides.....carry lots of film-PHX is a busy airport..good freighter action here-plus if TRAMCO is still in OPS there(purple Bldg)-there is always something strange there when I visit,,,check both sides of the Bldg)....if you have a car, the north side of the north runways was a parking area, towards the east end...but I haven't been there in 2 yrs...

SLC:
I was there in July '02-and I only had 1 hr & 30 mins to shoot, but I was in the parking garage-security came and talked to me and no problem....they left.

Never been to NY.

PHX is simple. Try the T3 or T4 garages for views of both sides of the airport. The T2 garage is good in the morning when aircraft take off to the east.

Find a map of PHX and get on Washington north of the airport. When you get to 40th ST, turn south (it's the intersection with the greyhound track and a swap meet). This will curve around to a perfect place to see the north runway operations. The reference to the Cutter Aviation spot is off 24th ST south of the airport. Very easy to find.

Damn, this website is getting worse daily.
