Ever considered the possibility that LH is urgently preparing to replace the UAL-flights between the US and FRA/MUC ?
Their Alliance partner is heading straight to bankruptcy.

Pothiabs:
I don't think so. LH urgently needs the planes to cope with the demand on all long-haul routes. I have checked availablity on LH's longhaul flights out of MUC and they are quite full usually, often Y and F, or Y and C are sold out. I also don't think that UA will cease operation THAT quickly, and if, I see no reason why LH shouldn't be able to buy ex-UA planes to take over the ex-UA routes
Airmale:
They just BOUGHT 10 A333 from Airbus, delivery between January 2004 and November 2005 it seems. However, LH needs capacity NOW. So they decided to get planes which can be integrated into the fleet quickly. The A340 won't be any problem at all, the A330 have PW4000 engines (I don't know about LH Technik's capability to maintain PW4000 engines, but OS will gladly help them out, for a small fee ).
Starflyer:
As I mentioned in another thread, typical A330 routes might (will be):
FRA-AUH (4 times a week) A340 1 stop
FRA-ADD (4 times) A340 1 stop
FRA-ASB (3 times) A313 maybe the A330 is too big
FRA-ASM (6 times) A340 1 stop
FRA-BLR (3 times) A340
FRA-DMM (3 times) A340 1 stop
FRA-DXB (daily) A340
FRA-CAI (twice daily) A340
FRA-KRT (4 times) A340 1 stop
FRA-KWI (3 times) A340
FRA-MCT (3 times) A340 1 stop
FRA-THR (daily) A340
FRA-TLV (twice daily) A340
MUC-DXB (daily) A340 starting this winter
MUC-TLV (3 times) A32S / A340 in winter usually
Has anyone ever spotted one of the mentioned planes in FRA or HAM? How long would it take to refit these planes with an LH outfit and cabin?
I hope to see the one or other A330 in MUC too, maybe on the DXB runs

Looking at the current situation I guess it wasn't the right decision to withdraw the 747-200 fleet so quickly...
Has there been a statement on the A330's and A340's from Lufthansa somewhere? I know that they don't care too much about keeping the "Freaks" (As I am one) up to date about fleet plans.

@ Airblue
LH has just bought an additional A300-600 (ex Emirates), bringing the fleet to 15. Obviously they have no plans to replace the A300s in the near future - and there is no need to, they are not exactly old and fit very well into the network. However, the A330-200s leased now will give LH a good opportunity to evaluate the type and to assess if it is really unsuitable as a A300-600 replacement because of its weigth.

SailorOrion: The planned flights MUC-DXB v.v. to be operated by LH with A343 starting this winter, are no longer up to date. They have been dropped a few weeks ago.

here are the Aircrafts LH will geinthe near future.
10 CRJ-700 (in 2003)
1 A300-600 (from EK in 3/03)
5 A330-200 (ex SN/SR 1Q 2003)
2 A340-300 (ex SN/SR 1Q 2003)
10 A330-300 (1Q 2003 to 4Q 2004)
10 A340-600 (from 3Q 2003)
15 A380-800
The B742 will remain for another 15 month in service. They started 3 month ago and planned to use them 18 month.
The A300 will remain in the fleet for a couple of years and be used on high load innner german and european routes. Don't know if the A310 or 300 will serve some GUS states. The A330 are only for long hauls because LH still needs 10 Long hauler to fullfill their winter schedule!

Yes, LH has cancelled the plans to fly MUC-DXB this winter. It may have to do with the fact that FRA-DXB will become a B744 service, and that EK wants to fly MUC-DXB double daily, which is more than enough capacity in my opinion.
Does anybody know anything about the whereabouts of the leased planes?
Björn, according to LH's page, the A333 will be delivered from Q1 2004 to Q4 2005 ?!? Is that outdated? I would not say that the A380 will join the fleet in the near future, will they?
