Two questions re. Lan Chile to Lax-Santiago return:
1) LAX-SCL flight is operated on an 763; SCL-LAX flight is operated on an A340. Where does the 763 come into LA from before the outbound flight to Santiago, and where does the A340 go after it arrives in LA? I can't find any listings.
2) Has anyone flown either of these flights? I've only flown AA to Chile (and that was several years ago). How does the service compare? Know anything about business class or first class product?

The 763 operates 1 time a week with the 340 the other days. I flew the 340 on the LIM-SCL portion in y class a couple of weeks ago. The flight leaves from LIM at 1:55am so there was just a small snack for this part of the flight. I don't know what is offered on the LAX-LIM part. The strangest part of their operation is that they lock all of their lavs until after takeoff and they cannot be used before flight. The PTV's are nice and also strange to see the anti-theft devices on the blankets. The worst part of the trip is before customs the US citizens have to pay a $65 retaliation fee or something very closely named to the Chilean government but I forgot what it's named.

Lan Chile the SCL-LIM-LAX route with 763ER three times per week. The rest of the week uses the A343. The reason is that Lan Chile has only 4 A340-300, two 343 flies to Europe (SCL-MAD-FRA), one to Lima and Los Angeles and one to Auckland and Sydney. When Lan Chile receives its 5th A340-300 the next year will operate the route to LAX only with A340 service.
