Westjet 8- See my post below about Swiss joining Oneworld. I don't think it is in their best interest right now.
I have heard loose things about TAM joining. Keep in mind that Canadi>n was founding member, so Oneworld had a stronger hold on North America but now that is not so.
I have also heard that Oneworld is seriously targeting China Eastern and possibly even EVA Airways about joining. I am sure JAL has been offered a position in Oneworld as well.

As the CEO of Swiss International Airlines, Andre Dose, said in an interview, Swiss reached an agreement with all Oneworld airlines (including BA) and will join Oneworld probably before the end of this year. He also said that it would be very important for Swiss to join an alliance.

Well what about in NA. Has one world made any attempt to steal AeroMex or Mexicana? Or at least get some codeshare there?

Oneworld in North America is very strong when you consider you have American which has also just merged with TWA to form a huge operation.
As for new members I see JAL, Swiss, and China Eastern joining in the near future. I would also like to see South African join Oneworld as they already have agreements with QF, and CX.

Groupo TACA seems a logical addition in the future, given their relationship with AA.

But TACA is South America....
Will OneWorld ever expand North America service with a Canadian/Mexican partner?

Exactly how much reveune is AA giving up by not flying between Monterrey and Cancun(connecting through MEX)? I venture to say that most money made flying to Mexico is O&D with the U.S.
Canada? BTDT. If Canadian had been a cash cow, they would still be Canadian, eh? And they would be part of OW, nez pas(not to ailenate the Quebecois)?
I can see TACA, though. It can't hurt to have more Central American coverage.TC

I know that Swiss has said that it wants to join OneWorld soon. I hope that others like JAL, Eva Airways and China Eastern join soon. Can anyone confirm the addition of Gulf Air to OneWorld, this is the first time I've heard of this.

Swiss and china eastern are long term targets so is JAL.Im surprised re gulf air, i presumed it would join skyteam, im surprised one world didnt want emirates, no offence to gulf air fans but emirates fits one worlds branding better.
el al wont be going anywhere until its future is sorted out(re poilitical problems in the m.east plus the privitisation plans.)
re south america, im surpirsed one world doesnt advertise all of the lan airlines in the same way star advertises all the austrian airlines', does any one know why?
It is amazing what can be accomplised when nobody takes the credit
