QF IFE On London Flights

I have a friend flying to London mid Oct of QF1. I have been told that enough aircraft are now fitted with the IFE that all London flights are now on the upgraded aircraft as they have given these flights preference.

Does anybody know if this is correct.

Beno is quite right, Qantas will have 14 744's online with IFE in all classes by the end of September 2002.

VH-OJB,OJC,OJE,OJF,OJK,OJL,OJM,OJO,OJP & OJQ Kangaroo Config

VH-OJR,OJT & OJU Pacific Config

VH-OJG, Is due out of the hanger and online 28th September

VH-OJN, Is due to be completed mid October

VH-OJH & OJD are due in a 2 Class config late October & early November respectively.

This leaves only VH-OJA for Kangaroo Config'd aircraft,
and VH-OJI,OJJ,OJS,OEB,OEC & OED for Pacific Config'd aircraft without this system.

This should mean that within the next 2 months, all services to the UK / Europe should be covered with IFE fitted aircraft.

I guess as the new 747-400er's come online with the IFE already installed some of the other Pacific Config's aircraft could be changed to the 2 Class layout. We'll just have to wait and see.

Works are being carried out at SYD Jetbase and at Avalon. At one stage NZ's AKL base was also used.

VH-OJG is the first to be coming out as a 2-class config a/c, so its out for LHR.

AirNZ is STILL carrying out config for QF...one aircraft is in AKL right nwo getting reconfig!!

The pictures of the IFE I have seen which was on OJE (the first to be fitted) look very good, but why is OJE still got the old interior yet OJC which was the second to be fitted got the new interior? Does all the other 744s have the new interior as well?

When planned, the IFE upgrade was to commence mid 01 and the upgrade of the interiors from Jan 02. As such approx 6-7 744's were to have the IFE installed with the "old" interiors in place. Why this was the case is beyond me as it seems so stupid to then recall the 744's equipped with the new IFE and old interiors to then replace the old interiors with the new interior.

Then came Sept 11 and the collapse of AN and I think QF then slowed down on the installation as they needed the planes for domestic services. They also must have come to their senses and decided to upgrade the interior as well on all 744's having the IFE installed. As such I think only one 744 has the IFE and the old interior.

Incidentally, in November last year I went on a holiday to Perth and flew on OJE. It was one of the best flights I have ever had. Watching a movie and playing games on the flight from SYD to Perth was fantastic. It is a really good system.

So which other aircraft will go 2 class? So far i've heard OJD, OJF, OJG and OJH going 2 class I would think OJI and OJJ will aswell! 10 are going 2 class I think so maybe a couple of the other older Kangaroo aircraft. I guess OEB, OEC and OED will remain Pacific aircraft with the GE engines.

I believe VH-OJN is currently in AKL.

Also while on the topic of QF is the BNE-AKL-LAX flight changing to a 2 class 744?

If so us AKL spotters should then get to see some different 744's like OJF and OJH and comany which will be good!
