I´ve read a rumour that Montenegro Airlines is currently negotiating with Boeing about 3+4 B717-200 to be delivered from 2004 (?) onwards. However the deal is far away from being signed as other offers are considered, too.

Hate to put a spoiler on this, but can US firms sell to Yugloslavia and Montenegro at present?

The Answer for Yugoslavia is No, and I am unsure about Montenegro.

Nice news, hope they com true.
And if you, Flying-Tiger, post something like this, it must have something true, in my eyes, your posts are very objectiv.
Und das ist ernst gemeint!!

I picke this news up at Air Transport International in the public section, usually they are very reliable thus I summarized and posted it. A few months ago I would have said that the B717-200 is dead but now that the FD728/928, the main competitors are gone the picture might look different. Interesting that LH invited a bid for B717 to replace the FD728 order but I think this is more or less to put pressure on the other parties to bring down the price.

Interesting. I've never thought for a moment that Lufthansa would be even remotely eyeing the 717. LH has never flown a Douglas twin-jet before. So this would be a major shot-in-the-arm for the 717 if it were true. I shall wait & see...and keep my fingers crossed. How many 717s would LH need if they decide on it? Regards.

well, though airbus offers the a318, i´d say the 717 is still a better replacement for the 735 than the a318. so who knows...
it may be that LH wants other parties to submit better offers, but who knows...
not very probable, but still very interesting

(i know about the commonality issues...)

TAM is getting rid of their F100s and replacing with A319s.
The used/cheap ex-TAM fleet might adversley affect the 717 market......

I don't think anyone really wants second hand F100s anymore... If they did, US has a ton of them in the desert, and American is getting rid of theirs too. It's hard to get parts now, and American is retiring theirs b/c there's some kind of defect w/ the F100 that's gonna cost more to fix than the plane is worth.

In other words its going to get easy to get F100 parts and they are going to be even cheaper to airlines like Montenegro (who already operate F100s).

@ B717fan: Air Tranport International´s domain is http://www.rati.com (R for Reed´s Business Publications).

@ Lufthansa: As I´ve already remarked it looks like this is being more or less a competitor-bring-down-the-price excercice. And the B737-500 replacement is not current at the moment, we are talking about the new regional jet to be operated by Eurowings here!

For a while Alitalia was really interested in buying 30/40 B717 to use on domestic routes as MDD-80 replacement, that on many domestic routes is too big, but know it seems they will buy more A319 and possibly ERJ-190.

Would be great if Alitalia would take the 717, but there are limited chances for the 717, as Airblue said.
But what about Meridiana? I know they are/where interested at the 717 also.

Meridiana is looking A319 or B73G. They need a plane with more than 130 seats, but less than their MDD-82 (165 seats).

So the choice it seems only between 319 and 73G.

I was told by a friend at Boeing that Finnair, Alitalia, Northwest, Meridania, Austrian and AA are all looking(NW and AA relooking) at the 717, though they may not make it public. AA, Finnair and Alitalia had people at Boeing in LGB a few weeks back looking at the planes.
