I have the impression Cathay is going an independent route within Oneworld.
Of course they have some Codeshares, FF deals and Logo's spread across the process ..
However I don't see HKG developing into a hub for other airlines then CX. BA does everything via SIN (& competes with CX on Australia !!)..
Cooperation seems opportunistic, Cathay perhaps feels / knows it can do very well by itself doing a one stop operation Asia-europe and Asia-North America via their new HKG Hub ....

there seems to be a movement in some parts to try and destroy oneworld, qantas going to star, iberia and american leaving etc and now cathy.
Cathy pacific is perfectly happy within the one world alliance, it had a poor relationship with qantas in the past but the alliance is of great benefit to it.
"BA does everything via SIN , thats not the case, BA has services to HK.BAs serrvice to australia is for pax wishing to goto britain and australia. Most BA pax once they get to hk or sin then go with qantas. Both american and ba fly to the us, both ba and iberia fly to spain for example.
It is amazing what can be accomplised when nobody takes the credit
