I need two one-way tickets from Hong Kong to Singapore at the end of november, or early december. Does anybody have advice on what airline I should take, and what fare I should expect to be charged? Thanks!

Ooops. Here is how the thread will develop: The SQ dudes will push SQ to death, then the CX dudes will push CX to death.

Feeling left out, the MAS dudes will come in and say you should take MAS. Plus, you'll be able to transit in the world class KL International Airport, they'll say.

The odd person will suggest you take some funny routing, like going via Sydney or something...

Oh one thing. it is SINGAPORE. not Singepore.

Yeah!!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Fly CI....it has direct flights between HKG and SIN! It is definitely cheaper too, and you can forget the hassle of transiting in some airport that is so near Singapore, yet so far....

There Docpepz, didn't see that one coming did you?  Laugh out loud

No CI for me. After their A340 t/o from a taxiway in ANC, I don't know what they will do next. As usual, fly SIA, you'll really enjoy it!

Fly either SQ or CX, they are both great. If you prefer entertainment, then I guess SQ is a good choice, if you want to be in safer hands, then CX would be a great choice.

9VSVA, somehow, I don't really think the runway mistake thingy comparison between CI and SQ succeeded in convincing anyone here.....

I'd say SQ, wonderful service and very safe although many would not agree. Many flights to choose from too.

Well... SQ took off from a taxiway too, no?  Smile

Take Qantas - The Spirit of Australia! They offer a superb service on their 10year old Boeing 767-300s, with no personal television to distract you from enjoying their wonderful inflight service, provided by elegant ladies from the fities and sixties.

Okay enough of the Qantas service..

HKG-SIN
-> SQ Frequent, good service but expensive
-> CX Frequent, good service but expensive
-> MH Not so frequent, superb service, cheap
-> TG Not so frequent, good service, price I'm not sure
-> QF Only 1 flight a day, not sure about price, and you get the good old Q.A.N.T.A.S service.
-> GA Only 1 flight a day, OK service, cheap, and you may get to fly a DC-10
-> CI Only 1 flight a day, good service, cheap, but you may not reach your destination

Cant think of anymore airlines that do HKG-SIN...

Or you can try Garuda. They have daily flights between HKG and SIN, leaving HKG at 1700 and arriving in SIN 2040. And they are dirt cheap.

CXHKG,

Tsentsan already mentioned GA. I myself would go CX as I should support my home airline, not to mention I dont trust certain pilots at SQ, GA or CI !!

Although HKG-SIN is not served so frequently by MH as on CX and SQ or maybe TG, I think you should try to fly MAS because their inflight service is just superb, with great IFE and of course you get to fly into KLIA hehe... can't resist that, i just have to say it.. and lots of other advantages...

Or maybe you might even want to try Vietnam Airlines via Hanoi or Ho Chi MInh City... service is not superb but you get to fly on an airline that is not so popular and find out their service which is of average. If you want a stop in both Hanoi and SGN, you can choose one of the flights that flies HAN-SIN with a one hour stop at SGN to pick up and drop pax.

But still, i recommend MH !

Hello,

I assume you'd take direct flight because if you take flight which needs to transit there's not a much difference in price I can 100% tell you. Regarding the price it depends how many days you are staying in Singapore, and it's near the holiday seasons in December of which surcharges will apply, also on certain flights. Different flights have different prices, and different classes.

If you take a flight that needs a transit (Phillipines for example) it's even more expensive then GA and slightly cheaper than CI. So that's why I won't recommend non-direct flights.

Garuda is offering a $1200 HK dollars (Around 155 US dollars) one way if you depart before 15/12/2002.

Singapore Airlines is offering a $3050 HK dollars one way fare if you depart before 19/12/2002. As you can see there's a really big difference.

Qantas is also a good choice if you think SQ are too expensice (followed by CX), Depart before 12/12/2002.

All of them are in Y class, and with different terms and conditions that will apply. There are actually more choices, if you want more details I can help you with that. Also United Airlines also fly Singapore - Hong Kong v.v.

Best Regards

9V-SVA, nothing against SQ, I fly them frequently. Just I feel safer with pilots from my home airline. Also the fact that SQ pilots have directed 744's through a parking bay and taking off from wrong runway. I just lose more confidence in them when mistakes like these are made. I am sure I am entitled to my opinion still.

Like I said, I fly them more than any other airline, although I shoudl support my local airline more, but they are bit on the pricey side  Smile

Yeap very true! I would go SQ ... for 2 reasons..
i/ Krisflyer miles
ii/ B777-200ER

If neither of these are available, screw SQ, and I'll take GA provided they get a DC-10  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

You should fly Singapore Airlines!Welcome to Singapore Airlines

From the Singapore Airlines website at Singaporeair.hk, a one way fare from SIN - HKG, departing on Friday 29 November 2002 would cost you SGD650 / HK$2846.74 / €371.93 / US$364.91. Cancellation charge of SGD75 applies and that fare is eligible for KrisFlyer miles accrual.

Depart Singapore on 29 November 2002 at 1535
Arrive Hong Kong on 29 November 2002 at 1925
SQ 010 - Boeing 777-200ER.

Well you should fly Singapore Airlines because you will experience a very comfortable journey. The 777-200ER is equipped with newly-designed Economy Class seats. The seat pitch is 33" and are ergonomically designed with height-adujustable winged headrests, a footrest and lumbar support.

In addition, you are guaranteed WISEMEN (if you are taking SQ10). With WISEMEN, you have an even greater array of inflight entertainment options to choose from and you can control what you watch (Play, pause, fast-forward, rewind and stop selections).

International meal selections are served and snacks and refreshments are available on demand. Beverages and the spicy KrisChilli are available. Food has been created by eight world-acclaimed chefs including Yeung Koon Yat of Hong Kong and others.

Finally, you will be able to experience the service that Singapore Airlines is renowned for, that "even other airlines talk about".

Anyone can fly, only the best Soar.

Singapore_Air,

I share your enthusiasm for SIA.. but he's flying HKG-SIN for heaven's sake! BTW, for a fare SGD650 SIN-HKG, you can get a SIN-SYD flight on EK.. now which would be more practical?  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
My advise- Dont fly SIA unless you have too much cash. Or if its real cheap.

This one is just way beyond my power to reply.

He should just fly CX as he's flying from Hong Kong. Why would he want to fly on the SQ 772 thats been full of smelly passengers for 15 hours from Vegas.

Royal Brunei (via Bandar Seri Begawan)
China Southern (via Guangzhou ... but check)
Philippines (via Manila)

Best Business Class: Royal Brunei. Best Economy: Singapore Airlines. First: please send money first!

Hkgspotter1, SQ operates 45 flights and only 3 of them are to Las Vegas...

And for your information, around 82% (Around that figure and only caculated for the 1st 5 flights) actually terminate in Hong Kong.

The only thing is that SQ is the most expensive among all, no doubt that will scare passenger away, but they have the most direct flights on the other hand. But as most people might know I only fly SQ so I'd recommend SQ to anyone, but for such a short flight i think UA or QF would be alright. CX is good, but the tickets are only slightly cheaper than SQ, which doesn't make any difference.

Best Regards

25 JC5280 : Did anyone mention United's 747-400 flight as an option?
26 Garuda : Nothing against UA here.... but if you fly Economy, forget them, the seat pithc in their 744 is horrible, unless you can get into the Economy Plus. Ho
27 HS-LTA : You can choose UAL...... buy ticket at www.priceline.com.hk you can try from HKD 800. Most of pax can get ticket around HKD1000. But it depart from HK
