I would like to know how A320s first came here. I used to think that NWA had the first a320s but then I found this:

...and a Pan Am-order, but PA went bankrupt before delivery.

ps: Those Braniff A320 went to America West.

The original America West A320's were originally ordered by Pan Am but never flew with them. Then ended up going to Braniff for a very short time and then into storage for along time, before finding a home at America West.

DATABASE EDITOR

1984-Sep-13: Pan Am enters an agreement for 50 A320's (16 firm, 34 options).
1985-Jun-01: order finalized.
1989-Jan-04: Braniff Corp. assumed Pan Am's orders and options.

Not all were taken by Braniff as they were also in financial trouble. America West took over the Braniff deal, receiving the few aircraft already taken by Braniff as well as directly from Airbus.

Northwest did have the first A320's delivered to a US carrier, in June of 1989. The first V2500-powered A320's from the Pan Am/Braniff order were delivered in July of the same year.
