Yes I would guess that would mean 17 cabin crew. The standard number of cabin crew at VS on a 744 is 18, but just recently due to sickness and crew shortages etc. alot of flights have been operating with less cabin crew. It was nice of them to actually remember that the cabin crew also played an important part too.
Just curious though, why would you want to contact the 2 pilots ?.

I don't think anyone will be able to tell you anything that Leezyjet or the other post (which has now been deleted) have already told you, ie yes the a/c had 17 cabin crew and if you want to write to the flight deck then try sending a letter c/o Virgin Atlantic. I'm sure they would appreciate a quick 'thank-you' note assuming that's the purpose of you writing to them?
