Canadian A.F. A310 At LHR

If anyone is wondering what that Canadian Airforce A310 is doing parked around the back of the BA maintenance area, (visible from the A30), it's to take the Queen on her state visit to Canada.

We hoped a few months ago that she'd use Concorde, like the US tour in 1991 when G-BOAB had a VIP interior fitted in the forward cabin for the flights.
But with fewer available aircraft right now, and the high costs (the Royal transport costs come under a lot of scrutiny in Parliament these days), it wasn't going to happen.

Yes several times, in 1977 she returned from Barbados, out to BGI in 1989 and out to IAD in 1991 for the US tour.
Some Royals flew on the development aircraft prior to service entry.
The Queen Mother was given a special flight for her 85th birthday in 1985.

Her itinerary includes YFB (Iqaluit); there are no Euro flights here. Hence a charter is needed.


Panam, TWA, Ansett, Eastern.......AC next? Might be good for Canada.

It's still at LHR and was parked between the cargo area and the VIP suite when I was up there at lunchtime.
