A press release from Lufthansa last week heavily suggests that the FD 728-100 is still LH´s favoured option and indicates that the carrier is heavily trying to rescue the programm behind the scenes. A final decision still has not been taken but the words "60 FD728" have been spoken. I´ve the press notice but it is in German only.

I hope for the best. Lufthansa is demonstrating a type of corporate mentality that many would consider out of date. It is, however, the mentality that in effect spawned the great aviation heritage of nations like Germany, Italy, France, the UK, and the USA. Props to LH for investing in the German aerospace industry! (Yes, I know FD is a US firm now)

Looks don't say everything, but it looks very good. High efficiency, growth potential, environmental friendly.

I was surpriced about its fate so far ...

Silently that is what I had hoped for after they had cancelled the order for the planes. Now my hope has grown a little more... After all the 728 is the most advanced plane in it's class.

I believe it's a lifeline. Since investors are lined up, albeit without ALL the funding, LH is saying.....'if you commit to building it, we will commit to buy it.'
Of course, the financiers are looking in the other direction (you buy/we will build). At any rate, the fat has been now cut out of the program with the receivership--helping with overhead and general expenses.

This aircraft is tailor made to LH's specifications...they have always been the driving force. Although it is a buyers market, airlines are somewhat lacks to commit right now to any new programs--that's actually good news because it gives Dornier some extra time. I believe the aircraft would be a year late to market---following the 170 and CRJ700. Being third doesn't hurt, the 777 has carved out a very successful niche by being last.

Hopefully, it will come together.

The quality and economy of the aircraft have not been questioned, just the over design and (dare I say) mismanagement of some aspects of the project (i.e. side controller vs. yokes, etc).

I hope they can work it out and get this program back on track. The Embraer is nice, but the DORnier is far nicer.

i´d say that indicates that LH does not consider the ERJ 170+ at all as a viable option for its future fleet. its certainly a nice aircraft, but i don´t think that LH is interested in the brazilian aircraft family.

there were some rumours in the not too distant past that there were so russian investors willing to commit financial funds to FaiDo, but i believe there are also some european parties interested in reviving the project.

cheers

So, FT...who is the financial backing from?
Is it realistic?
Or is it the Dornier and Nestle families again (which came to nothing)?

When came we expect any kind of annnouncement?

Johhnybegoode: Lufthansa has a strong preference for a wider cabin (for 4 across business seating). However, they have already stated during the initial Dornier receivership that they would persue the Embraer alternative if the 728 would not be built.

Financial backing: I can only guess, I assume that most comes from venture capitalists plus more from thefederal and later local government if the deal goes through.

IMO it is realistic seeing the backing they are getting from Lufthansa but this is something the next weeks have to show. An announcement is expected in the weeks to come but before the end of October.

for some info on a continuous interest on the FD 728, please check out http://www.finanznachrichten.de/nachrichten-aktien/lufthansa.asp.

i don´t know for sure who exactly the investor party is, but i believe they are form Switzerland. i could very well imagine they´re trying to revive to program with help of federal aids from German authorities.

Greg, as i was told Embraer representatives were already in FRA and Lufthansa is not to keen on their jet family. it´s not only about the 4-abreast thing (it´s certainly true that LH would prefer the 728 due to its wider cabin).

there is no official statement, of course, but i was told by credible people of the industry.

daniel

Johnnybegoode: You're much closer to the source. And I don't read/speak German...so I'll go with what you say.
I can only comment on what bits make it over here to the States.
Thanks for the update.
Brgds.

Is there any more news?
What's the likelihood of this happening?
