Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't one of the reasons United switched the 777 onto the AKL route because the flight was no longer going to MEL and the extra passenger capacity was not needed?? (Emphasis on ONE of the reasons).

Will UA ever make up their minds what they are going to do with MEL? first it was via SYD, then via AKL, then non-stop , then via SYD again ( to become a domestic flight SYD-MEL to bost revenue ) , now via AKL..... confusing!
at one point MEL had 2 flights a day... one via SYD , one via AKL.
So MEL must be a good market for them, but the ANsett collapse hasnt helped them one bit.... connections from ADL, CBR , PER and Tasmania are non-existent with a STAR carrier...
so very interesting times... but it seems UA have no idea what they are doing anywhere in the world... managment have lost the plot....
