Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't one of the reasons United switched the 777 onto the AKL route because the flight was no longer going to MEL and the extra passenger capacity was not needed?? (Emphasis on ONE of the reasons).

Couldn't they have two flights daily flown by the 777 and have one of them carry on to MEL

I didn't think that the AKL-MEL sector was that popular.

UA operated the DC10 to AKL for a while in the 1990's I was wondering where from anyone? Did they still have the 747 from LAX then aswell?

The UA DC10 service was SYD-AKL-HNL-LAX or SFO.

Cool thanks!  Smile

So no one knows about a possible increase in flights to AKL by UA.

They could fly one of them if they increase or send the daily flight down to Christchurch.
That would be great if they do that

Why on EARTH would UA send a flight down to CHC when their Star partner NZ offers flights just about on the hour?!

So if the info is correct than they are not in anyway increasing flights they are just sending them onto Melbourne AGAIN. Just out of curosity could you name your source of these new flights.

Will UA ever make up their minds what they are going to do with MEL? first it was via SYD, then via AKL, then non-stop , then via SYD again ( to become a domestic flight SYD-MEL to bost revenue ) , now via AKL..... confusing!

at one point MEL had 2 flights a day... one via SYD , one via AKL.

So MEL must be a good market for them, but the ANsett collapse hasnt helped them one bit.... connections from ADL, CBR , PER and Tasmania are non-existent with a STAR carrier...

so very interesting times... but it seems UA have no idea what they are doing anywhere in the world... managment have lost the plot....

ciao

indianicworld,
such a bold statement, I don't hear your name as our new CEO. Easy to judge an airline when you don't face the consequences.
