ATL-FCO Now Operated By DL Partner?

My mom, my brother, and I are going to Italy next summer. We already have tickets because we needed to get FF tickets and because they sell out quickly, wo got them as soon as we can. Anyway, we are flying DL from ATL to FCO and then are coming back on DL from MXP. I was trying to change our seats tonight and it worked just fine on the MXP-ATL sector, but look at this message I got about changing the ATL-FCO one:

"We're sorry. Delta Air Lines is currently unable to display seat maps for this flight segment operated by a Delta partner. Please select your seats for the remainder of your itinerary.
For immediate assistance, please call our Online Customer Support Desk. If calling from within the U.S. or Canada, use 1-888-750-3284.If outside those areas, select Contact International Reservations to find the local number for your area."

ATL-FCO is supposed to be operated by a DL MD-11. Does this mean that it has been switched to possibly Alitalia?

Also look at this message:
Flight 70 From Atlanta (ATL) to Rome (FCO)
Departs 5:35PM 6JUL, Arrives 9:10AM 7JUL, 1 Stop

Since when was ATL-FCO one stop, or does this mean that we are going through CDG? When we booked, we were told it was nonstop. I don't mind if there is now a stop, hehehe, but my mom was hoping for nonstop. It's not like she is overly concerned about it, because she really wants to go and she is not going to fret over how we get there, but she was hoping for nonstop. Thank you for your help!

All of that has now changed on the Delta website back to what should be normal, except for the one stop thing. Any info on that? Also, I have questions about the seats I have selected. On ATL-FCO, an MD-11, we have 31A, 31B, and 38C (exit row). I have 31A. On the Delta website, their seatmap of the MD-11 shows row 30 being the farthest up row in Y, but on the seat map where I actually select seats, it shows row 31 as being the farthest up in Y on the the A,B side of the aircraft. Which one is accurate? On the return flight, I selected seats 44A, 44B, and 44C. Those are a bulkhead exit row. I am in 44A. How are these seats do you think? My brother is currently assigned to 44C because he is not 15, so cannot sit in an exit row (middle seats on DL are not considered exit row). Do you think he can switch with my mom (44B) during the flight without getting in trouble? I don't want to sound like I think he should be able to switch. I just want to know if the f/a's will let him. If Delta.com said that all seat changes were honored, does that mean that we are most likely booked in those seats? How certain is it? Also, how many 777s will be in the 3-3-3 configuration by then? Would that throw off the entire seating?

No, this is not as for 1 stop into the flight and it was only by the nonstop from ATL-FCO flight as for itself. The flight will be continued as for nonstop as for longer from Atlanta flight to Rome, Italy by the next day into the morning, ok? Well, hope this is your helps. Thanks!!

Apparently the "one stop" is your destination. On the seat selection screen, which is what I assume you're referring to, I've also noticed that all non-stop flights say "1 stop." Flights that make a stop before reaching their destination will say "2 stop" on that summary. I don't know why they decided to display it that way, especially since everywhere else it would say non-stop. If anyone who works for Delta could better explain it, I'd definately appreciate it too!

Now your last question: Would the 3-3-3 configuration throw off the entire seating. Well, all the seats are the same. Really - the rows and letters haven't changed, they're still 9 across, the same number of rows, and the same number of seats total. The only difference is that now B and H are center instead of aisle, F and D are the aisle seats instead of center, and C and G are in a different section but still aisle. There should be no problem since no seat numbers have to change. That being said, I got the lucky loner - N867DA, the only 3-3-3 configured DL 777 at the time - on a flight from CDG-ATL on June 10, 2002, and they totall screwed up our seat assignments. Because the aircraft was the 3-3-3, they DELETED everyone's seat assignments and had the computer place everyone RANDOMLY with the only criteria that groups travelling together would be seated together. Instead of leaving our seat numbers and having our 2 window and 2 aisle seats become 2 window and 2 center, they moved us to the center section - all 3 seats across + aisle seat of the adjacent side section. Of course, that was when the first one had only been in the fleet for 2 months, so they might have this little bug worked out by next year... Good luck!

Actually, N861DA was configured as 3-3-3 well before N867DA was even delivered.

Thank you all very much! Strickerje, we barely missed each other! On June 12, 2002, I flew the same aircraft, N867DA, from CDG to ATL. It was a nice flight. I had an aisle of the center part, almost at the back.

Really? I'd thought that one was delayed for a while, do you know when it was rolled out with the new seats?

Airplanetire - Wow, that is close! Did they do the same thing to your seat assignment? I'm kind of wondering about that, especially since we made our seat arrangement 6 months in advance! I guess it's no big deal since I got a window seat, but it was over the wing which obstructed my view some.

N861DA made her first revenue flight in 3-3-3 config on February 4, 2002

Don't know the exact date but N861DA (ship 7002) was reconfigured 3-3-3 in Y (together with addition of crew bunks) before Sept 11 2001 whereas N867DA (ship 7008) only joined the Delta fleet in March/April 2002.
