This coming week, I'm flying to Knoxville TN to visit some friends. My route is LIT-ATL-TYS on Delta, and on the way there, I have an hour and a half connection time in ATL, so unless my first flight is EXTREMELY late, I should not have a problem. However, on the TYS-ATL-LIT route, I have barely a half hour connection time, so if I'm delayed at all, I'm pretty much, for lack of a better word, screwed.
I guess my question is, for all you Delta buffs out there, where will I land in Atlanta coming from both LIT and TYS, and where will I need to go to connect? Will I be running like a damn fool or not? Thanks!

I believe your flights to and from Knoxville are operated by ASA on Regional Jets. If this is right, then those flights should leave and arrive in concourse C. Are you flights to/from Little Rock going to be mainline or operated by a regional airline? I was in Atlanta this summer, I flew on Delta from DAY-ATL-ICT. I had to change terminals and I had 50 minutes. I made the connection alright. You should be able to make that 35 minute connection if all goes as planned, but absolutely do not waste any time. I changed terminals and got to my next flight's gate in like 20 minutes. Atlanta is actually an easy airport to use considering its size. If your flights to and from Little Rock will be on ASA as well, you will be in the same terminal as your TYS flights.

If you have the flight numbers....I can tell you the exact gates that these flights are assigned to unless there is irregular ops that forces gate changes........

Yes, your half half connection will be a sprint but as others have said, ATL is very well organised for connections.
Back in 2000 DL re-scheduled our connection at ATL from JAX to CLT from a 35 minute one to 1 hour 50. I didn't mind - this meant I could explore ATL, but my wife grumbled a bit. But, our baggage made the earlier connection and was waiting for us unattended outside the Delta office in Charlotte when we got there - so much for "your baggage must be on the same a/c as you" policy.

727 Gal- First of all let me welcome you to our little family here. Glad to have you on board and don't sweat any mistakes, all of us have made them and I do mean ALL of us, even those so-called experts.
As for ATL, not so long ago, my son was making a connection. He came in at T1 and was leaving from A30. Only 15 minutes because there was a late arrival, anyway, he ran like crazy and made it as the door was just about to close. So, if you are up to running, no problems at all. Good luck and have a good time.

Same thing happened to me....our bags took an earlier flight home to MCO (my mom even made a comment about the bags being on the wrong flight). Behold...we come home almost 2 hours later, and they were pulled to the side all alone.

I just noticed this thread, and, especially since I always fly Delta via Atlanta when I go anywhere, I just had to provide a little input.
Gate numbers may change, but the concourse generally doesn't.
OK, that looks pretty good -- It looks as though you'll have to change concourses, but only to an adjacent concourse, so you should have plenty of time. As already mentioned, listen for the connecting gate assignments that are announced toward the end of the flights. And of course, have fun!

In August, my mom and I came in on ASA from Gainesville to gate C30 or something and had a departure to Baltimore/Washington from B4 ~25 minutes after arrival. The first flight was delayed, that is why the connection was so tight, but anway...
We made it from one side, to the middle, on the train, to the opposite side (of the terminals this is) in about 7 minutes. I'm pretty sure that you'll probably be fine.
I'm not an expert on Atlanta, but this is just my experience.

Tip: You are only going one terminal (A to B), don't waste your time taking the train (unless, of course, it is already there). I have had layovers in ATL many a times, from 15 minutes to 2 hours, it is not a problem getting to your next flight, in either case. While you are there you could get lucky and see some planes in the E concourse (international concourse), that's where I spend my layover time.
