Hot (Internal) Vietnam Airlines News On Their B777

According to my reliable source (or so I think), from an undisclosed person linked to Vietnam Airlines:

1. The 777s they are scheduled to receive 4 of them in 2003/4.

2. First delivery of Apr 03 seems to be delayed till June or July 2003.

3. New flights to Paris non-stop wont start until then.

4. Their own pilots are now being trained in the USA.

5. But they still lack of many CAPT and FO, they will employ many more (most of) them pilots from outside Vietnam for the B777.

6. For cabin crew, they need only 1 week to study the aircraft as most aicraft equipment are the same as on the B767.

7. Once the B777s are in operation, VN *might* stop flying to Dubai, so less frequent.

OH and i forgot:

VN is now also using many foreign pilots for aircraft B767 and Airbus 320, VN will need to employ many many more pilot and Cabin Crew as well.They 're
very short of staff at this time, pilots VN has to employ from outside Vietnam.

VN will also use their 777 on flagship route to NRT/KIX. It is believed that they will either launch their own non-stop to US, or start code-share with CI to LAX/SFO via TPE in 2003.

They already have a code share agreement with CI for flights to LAX and SFO. They wont be flying to US that soon they also need to sort out their maintainence facilities to be able to have those beasts ETOPS certified. But they just wont do it so soon. At least not this or next yr...

They should get their first direct ordered 777 in June or July so I still think they will get their first leased 777 in Apr03. Looking forward to seeing the Golden Lotus livery on the VN 777s! Any idea of passenger configuration (number of seats in each class) ? The777Man

777man: I heard it is only 2 class but I am not sure of the seating configuration.

B-HOP: I am not sure but I think most of their pilots are trained in Australia and Malaysia but they do have simulator facilites for 767, 320 and ATR in SGN for their pilots. But most training to become an ATP is done mostly with Malaysia Airlines at Kuala Lumpur and some in Australia. But for the 777, they are being trained in the US.

Do they have a First Class cabin anyway? It would be nice to know and see what there plans are for cabins and whether they will have a First class cabin. How long will the flight be to the US nonstop? What type of market are they hoping to attract? As always you have to hope them the best of luck and lets hope that the 777 proves a market leader for them.
