United Doubling DEN-FAT Service Among Others

Just checked out the latest timetable, starting December 13, United will increase DEN-FAT service from the existing 2 daily flights to 4 daily flights. All flights will be operated on Skywest CRJs.

It's certainly interesting how the service is being doubled.

I noticed also some other United Express cities are seeing additional frequencies along with some United mainline cities aswell.

But also Skywest will be getting several more CRJs. So they gotta put them somewhere. I guess they thought increasing FAT was a smart choice, and I think it is.

Also, supposidly DEN-MFR is going to be announced on Monday. Stay tuned....

UA has taken FAT-DEN up and down in the past couple of years, sometimes they have 2 flights sometimes 3.

Meantime AA has managed to pull eastbound traffic out of FAT (people looking to avoid SFO/LAX) by adding an additional FAT-DFW this year. AWX now says the 700s will start on FAT-PHX in the next few weeks growing to 3 out of the 5 RTs by year end, adding more seats for eastbound conx out of FAT. Allegiant added a FAT-LAS this year, which I understand is seeing some pax connecting to other airlines at LAS for cheap fares.

Fresno continues to show pax counts above last year, unlike many other cities around the country. Business travel here is not as high yielding as other cities but seems to be a little more recession proof. (For example the local unemployment rate has actually been almost the same the last few years). Add in increased leisure travel rates and the region holds potential for the next few years for airlines.

So maybe UA is finally deciding to stake a claim and rebuild the market. At one point about 12 years ago they had 4 737s a day on FAT-DEN. We may not see that again for many years but these additional seats will be nice.

Perhaps also, in the grand scheme, there will be a reduction in UAX service to delay prone SFO and/or LAX to free up aircraft/gates, etc for other longer legged CRJ frights from either of those cities. Just a thought.

I have used the additional American MD-80 to DFW, connecting to other cities, several times already and have it ticketed for several other flights already also.
I am glad that the market has come around to support the second flight.

I'd still rather go thru DFW than DIA in the winter..just the idea of all that snow.

I bet DEN had like 10 snow days last year, I would rather fly through DEN than lets say ORD in the winter time. DEN Is A a breeze.

I know our flights to DEN were rarely delayed due to weather.

Weather is hardly an issue for Denver like ua777contrail.

Many people have no idea what type of weather Denver has. It's weather is among the mildest in the entire country. It's located in a dry basin and doesn't get much rain, and doesn't get much snow either. It recieves more sunshine than San Diego and Miami Beach.

Likewise, there are only a few snow days and most hardly have an effect on air travel.

What United is doing is closely watching where people travel and UA is trying to dictate what hubs they connect through, which is why there will be 4 daily CRJ DEN/FAT services.

Skywest has cut down the # of FAT-SFO runs from nearly every 1/2 hour to about 7 flights a day, mixed between EM2s and CRJs... hence the increase in DEN services for those going EAST.

Kinda makes sense, considering UA is footing the bill for everything!

I'm not sure there will be much reduction by UAX on FAT-SFO or FAT-LAX. Don't forget Skywest performs RJ and Brasilia maintenance at FAT so planes need to be rotated through Fresno. The only other Skywest maintenance facility in California is at PSP, which currently handles only Brasilia Mx. Fresno will still be needed to handle California RJs and Northern California (SFO hubbing) UAX Brasilias.
