I'm staring at a postcard of a Texas International DC-9 taken at ELP in mid-1982, and a question popped into my head:
What gates did TI operate out of at ELP? At the time, TI was operating ELP flights to IAH, MAF, PHX, and TUS.
I know that CO (who merged with TI) has only one gate currently (B-9), and that in mid-'82, the combination TI/CO operated 22 flights a day, so they had a much greater presence then than they do now.

Sorry I cannot help you with your question, but Continental actually considered El Paso a hub in the early 80's. I have a timetable mentioning their hubs in Houston, Denver, Honolulu and El Paso.

I heard that Continental was the sole operator out of Terminal B during the hub days. Currently Southwest, Delta (mainline and both Skywest and ASA), Continental, America West, and Frontier use terminal B. When I was younger, I remember seeing Western 727s parked at the end as well. The original Frontier was in Terminal A along with United and American.

Perusing a CO timetable form the early 80s, I came across the same info as Cody. Not only was ELP a hub but it was second in number of flights only to IAH. I flew the redeye 720 TUS-ELP and connected to the D10 ELP-SAT-IAH-MIA once.
As to what gates were used by TT, I do not know. I know that every time I was there in the mid 70s there would be a DC-9 and CV-600 on the ramp.Always 1 of each no matter the time of day.
What is it with all the "is there a possibilty airline X will.." threads? The answer it'll is possible.

What did you think of the 720B? That aircraft had incredible TO performance. I flew on several 720B from PAA many many years ago and they were like hotrods.

Up until the second bankruptcy, ELP was always an important part of the CO system. In fact, ELP was the original destination on Varney Speed Lines first route from Pueblo.
