A Japanese friend wishes to visit me here in MEL in late Novemeber. I've been trying to find some airliners/routings that would be suitable for her.
The problem is, she lives in Fukushima, a 3 hour(ish) bullet train trip from NRT. So, she needs to be able to fly from NRT after 11 am on the day of departure and arrive before 5 pm in the day of arrive at NRT in order to get home on that day... and avoid an expensive hotel stay overnight.
MEL 15:40 --> KUL 20:30 MH148
KUL 23:35 --> NRT 07:05+1 MH088
....but the departure time is too early for the first interconnecting Shinkansen/Airport train.
Does anybody else out their have some airliners/routing suggestions? I looks like she might have to take, at great expense, two different airlines each way. Oh, flying via SYD isn't out of the question.

Are you seriously telling me all nonstops between Narita and Sydney AND Melbourne leave before 11 in the morning, and return after 5pm? I don't have time to check all the websites but I feel that we have a bunch of airline buffs who love to overcomplicate things. Believe me it's going to be a lot quicker to get a hotel room at Narita if all the nonstops leave first thing to Aus then fly via Kuala Lumpur! I mean, I always take the longest and most complicated route but I wouldn't waste other people's time by sending them on such a wild goose chase.
Fly via Kuala Lumpur instead of an overnight hotel at Narita! Hahahaha!!!
fly Saha Air 707s daily from Tehran's downtown Mehrabad to Mashhad, Kish Island and Ahwaz
