I've just been loking at some photos of 767 and A330 cabins. I have up until now been a stalwart Airbus fan and have always preferred the A330 to the 767. I have never flown on the 330, but have flown on the A340 which has a near identical interior, and i thought it was ok. I have only flown on 767s with BA and KLM, and the KLM 767 is awfully cramped, they really cram em in! The BA example was marginally better.

But, now that they get the new 777 style interior, i have changed my mind and think that the new style 767 interior looks much nicer than the 330s. I hate to admit it, but i think i might have become a 767 fan!

i have chosen two photos that i think represent the two diferrent interiors well:

i think the 767 is more modern, fresh and has more headroom. What do you think? have you seen the new 767 interiors? what ARE they like compared to the 330/340? i would stress that the KQ example appears to have lighter coloured seating than other new 767 operatord like CO and DL, who's cabins do look darker than the KQ 767. I know dark seats hide the dirt, but they make the cabin look darker.

What is your favorite aircraft cabin?

In my experience, I have flown in a new CO 767-200 and it was great! What a change. My time in a AF 340 was also very favorable and a Sabena 330 (weird seating towards the rear!) not so good. The new interiors of the CO 767-200 are better I think than the Airbus products. I'm sure that Airbus will do an upgrade in the future.

Actually, a cabin upgrade for the A330 is already available, I think, in the form of the A340-600 cabin. I know it's available on the A340-300, so I think you'll soon find it on the A330 too.

i've seen the 346 style cabin, and to be honnest, i still prefer the new 767 interior, it just looks more modern, and everything does'nt appear to be hanging precariously from the ceiling!

I've flown them both, and actually don't have a preference, as I've had good and bad experiences on both- I think it all has to do with the airline.

Much depends on who you fly with. 7 abreast seating on a 767 is considerably better than 9 abreast seating on an A330. Similarly, 8 abreast on a A330 is considerably more comfortable than 8 abreast on an 767.

I really like the 2-3-2 layout on the 767 and find it very comfortable - to be honest I couldn't give a wet slap about the appearance of the interior - the 777 has always lost out in my mind to the 747 purely because it doesn't matter how curvy an interior is if the space simply isn't there !!

Have to say that in economy the 767 probably wins, business class or above the A330 wins. On a charter flight, neither wins !!

It all depends on how the airline manages its interiors.

For example, Air France's A330s vs. the 767s. If you were at all picky about your interiors, you'd be flying on the A330 hands down before flying the 767s. This all makes sense of course since the A330s are replacing the 767s, which brings me back to my point that it all depends on how the airline wants it.

Intuitively 2-3-2 feels comfier than 2-4-2, so the 767 interior is IMO cozier.

rediculius: who´s standing up
in a cabin for 5-10 hours just

I have flown both and really don't have too much of a preference. The longest I have flown the 767 though is coast to coast in the US; longest on the A330 is on a A332 transatlantic. It all depends on the carrier really. If one carrier had 35" pitch on their 767 and 30" pitch on an A330, then you'd probably like the 767 better. Vice versa if the pitch was switched. There are lots of other factors including PTVs (if you like those; I do), comfort of the seat, etc. Neither plane has any "double exuse me" seats.

On the 767, I do like that there are only 3 seats in the middle in a standard layout. It means that if you are in the middle seat, then you can easily get into either aisle. That could be nice if there was a beverage cart blocking your path in one aisle, but not the other.

On the A330, you can't easily get to the other aisle if you are in the middle because of the standard 2-4-2 layout, but that isn't an issue usually anyways. I've observed that if there is a beverage cart in one aisle, there is usually one in about the same place in the other aisle, so either both of them or none of them are blocking your path. The personal armrests for each seat in the middle of the middle on the A330/A340s are nice too. No having to share with your neighbor on that arm.

The ceiling thing doesn't really matter to me. I have flown the 777, so I have seen the new ceiling design for those (never on the 767, but they are about the same thing) and it looks nice, but that's about all. It's not like I'm going to be standing up the entire flight anyway. If that's what people did, then there would just be the little handle things that there are on buses and everyone would just stand up and hold onto those. The only time the ceiling thing is an issue is when you are at the gate after arriving and you might be standing up for a moment (you can sit down too). That wouldn't be enough to make me not like a plane though.

I like both planes for different things. They are both a joy to fly on and in my opinion, perfect. They are just the right size, especially for long flights. As I said above, I have never flown the 767 longhaul, but I have been on them for about 4 hours and I think that is enough time to give one and idea of how a 767 would be longhaul.

Alright, I can tell you a bit about these.

For a start, the Kenya Airways 767 didn't look much like that. But I used a timed exposure so I got alot of red, where the actual cabin was more of a sort of white light. The A330 cabin is definetely bigger, after 6 or 7 hours the 767 cabin does feel quite cramped (although not in business class  Big grin), whereas the A330 cabin still feels quite spacious.

I still prefer the A330, but the 767 with 777-style interiors are very nice as well, with the improved headroom.

Dan

I've flown on both of the planes you mentioned. However, I've only flown Business Class on the Airbus 330 so I have no experience with economy on the A330.

But overall, I think the 767-300 is one of the most comfortable planes I've ever ridden in - in Economy class. For a plane that almost has the same capacity as the 757, it sure us quite roomy. It's one of my fav airplanes just for that reason.

Its better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than be in the air wishing you were on the ground. Fly safe!

My main preference for the 767 is because typically, non-charter, they are set up 2-3-2. For longer flights, if you take an "inboard" aisle, you've got a better chance of not having anyone in the middle seat, especially if you have any status with the airline you're flying (where they will block the middle seat for as long as possible).

For my wife and I to travel together (we're both AA Platinum) on a 767 it's rare that we end up with anyone in the middle seat.

Just out of interest, a normal 767 Y seat is an inch wider than one in an A330.
