I think maybe N747ER is in the paint booth up at PAE, I haven't seen it at BFI for about 2 weeks.

From what I understand the 2nd one delivered is actually the test 744ER and was the first built. As such it was to be delivered very soon after the first.

Aardvark, no this is the second one - the first one is staill at Boeing.

(Confusing when they build one and keep it for a while, and deliver the second before the first, I know, but life is SO tough! Big grin )

I don't understand how Qantas 744ERs can have GE B1F engines since these powerplants don't have the capacity and power to handle the increased MTOW and range requirements. Does anybody have an explanation for this? Thanks.

The Qantas Boeing 747-438ER is fitted with CF6-80C2-B5F engines rated at 62,100lbs thrust, a 5% increase over the existing GE powered fleet.

AJ:

Bill Harm's site and www.jetairliners.com both claim that Qantas 744ER has GE B1F (not GE B5F) engines so your statement is incorrect. If you believe that you're correct, then why not try to go to both sites and try to right them from wrong?

Alain Mengus:

Who's correct about the Qantas 744ER engines?

AJ:

Congrats to Qantas for selecting GE B5F engines as these are my favorite powerplants for the 744 in general.

I may be interested in flying Qantas 744ER some day but probably not because that aircraft will not perform service between BKK and SYD anyway. I think they only fly it between SYD and LAX because that's an extremely long distance flight (8,000 miles +). So my hope is for Thai Airways to order the 744ER so that I can try it some day soon.

VH-OEF operated QF11 SYD-LAX Friday 8th Nov 02 as it's first revenue flight. I believe it was then due to operate to MEL from LAX on the evening of the 8th, however this may have been changed to operated back to SYD instead as the QF12 8th Nov 02, arriving SYD SUN 10th Nov 02. I think a lot of Melbourne spotters will be disappointed if this is true.

Thanks

Cool now I hope it will do a SYD-AKL flight 1 day soon so I can catch it, probably won't though so I will have to wait until AKL-DFW starts if it ever starts, I heard that it is still on.
