If I'm not mistaken they blocked a SR M11 in JNB around the 02 October (SR grounding). Frederic could be right, the last picture entry date for HB-IWR is August 2001. Could it be that HB-IWR never returned to ZRH after the SR grounding?

It's still the same MD-11, HB-IWR "Bern", which is impounded at JNB. The reason are open accounts between Swissair and SAA maintenance (don't know the exact name of this company).
One problem is to find out, who the real owner of this MD-11 is. The same goes more or less for all former Swissair aircraft not operated by SWISS anymore, according to the SAirGroup administrator.
I'm not an expert on this, but in my opinion, this MD-11 will sit a long time there without finding any solution. The SAirGroup administrator can't pay a full open bill, as this would be a preference of a creditor. Instead he will have to pay the same percentage of the open bills with what is left.
