Hi! Got the info from the Triple7 yahoogroup posted by fellow Airliners.net member A340-300E. Air Austral will lease the two 777s now flown by AirEurope and will fly them from their base at Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean to Paris CDG. They will get the first one on 15Apr02 and the second one a month later. First flight from Reunion (RUN) to CDG will be on 28 Jun03. Air Austral will fly the 777 in a three class configuration. Interesting. I wonder how much the uncertainty over continued services from Air Lib and Corsair had to do with this? Who else serve Réunion other than those two airlines? Air France?

Also interesting to see that they wanted A340s, but none were available to be leased.

I think they said there were no A340s available in the configuration that they wanted, whatever that means. Perhaps ILFC had to take the AirEurope 777s back and just gave Air Austral a good deal. I also think the passenger appeal of the 777 and the importance of a great aircraft as a new long haul carrier made Air Austral decide to go with it. No 777s parked yet since the two ex-BA (ZZZD and E) are going to Khalifa. Here's the only pic of Air Austral I could find in the database:

The two Air Europe B772s have a great configuration for a carrier like Air Austal, with 297 seats in Economy and 42 in Business, so they don't need to be reconfigure or at least the need only few and little works.
but 777's now being stored......... in fact the two Air Europe B772s aren't stored. They will fly for all the winter season.

They fly both charter and schedule from MXP and some flights also from FCO to:

-Havana
-Varadero
-La Romana
-Puntacana
-Cancun
-Male
-Colombo
-Phuket

For sure they also fly sometimes the B772s to others destinations of their network like (but I couldn't confirm at 100%):

-Montegobay
-Ciego De Avila
-Camaguey
-Pointe à Pitre
-Zanzibar
-Mauritius
