Smile Continental Connection is going to be launching twice daily YOW-ALB flights starting Dec.2. This is great news as this is the first new transborder route from YOW this year. The YUL-ALB flights must be doing really well for them to be launching this flight. It's also a sign the transborder market is starting to rebound more and more all the time. AC in January is also going to re-instate a fifth daily ORD-YOW.

Also will also finally be re-adding a third daily YOW-YVR flight on Dec 17.  SmileUnfortunately there is no sign of a third daily YVR-YUL.  Sad

Here's the press release:
BTW how are Commutair's YUL-ALB flights doing?

Continental Connection to Link Ottawa With 17 Northeast Business Centers

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y., Nov. 12 /CNW/ -- Continental
Connection today announced it will introduce twice-daily, nonstop flights
between Ottawa and its hub in Albany, N.Y., with well-timed connections that
link Canada's capital with key business destinations throughout the Northeast.
The new Ottawa service, effective Dec. 2, includes convenient connections
via Albany to Syracuse, Rochester, Long Island/Islip, Plattsburgh, Saranac
Lake/Lake Placid, White Plains and Buffalo, N.Y.; Allentown and Harrisburg,
Pa.; Burlington, Vt.; Bangor and Portland, Maine; Boston; Hartford, Conn.;
Manchester, N.H.; and Providence, R.I.
Ottawa is the second Canadian destination to join the growing Continental
Connection network operated by CommutAir, a regional codeshare partner of
Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL), following the start of Montreal service in
June. The new flights on 19-seat, Beech 1900 turboprops will complement
existing regional jet service between Ottawa and Continental's New York hub,
Newark Liberty International Airport.
"We're excited to announce new service that provides Continental
Connection customers with the best schedule and the fastest-available service
between Ottawa and 17 key Northeast business centers," said CommutAir Vice
President of Marketing and Planning Joel T. Raymond.
Customers who are members of Continental Airlines' OnePass frequent flyer
program earn a minimum of 500 OnePass miles for each Continental Connection
segment flown. New OnePass members can earn an additional 1,500 miles after
their first flight on Continental Connection.
CommutAir, based in Plattsburgh, N.Y., has served the Northeast as a
regional airline since 1989. The company has more than 200 employees and
currently serves 19 cities in New York, Pennsylvania, the New England states
and Canada, utilizing a new fleet of fast, efficient Beech 1900 aircraft
featuring all leather seats.
Continental Airlines is the world's sixth-largest airline and has more
than 2,000 daily departures. With 121 domestic and 90 international
destinations, Continental has the broadest global route network of any U.S.
airline, including extensive service throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia.
Continental has hubs serving New York, Houston, Cleveland and Guam, and
carries approximately 45 million passengers per year on the newest jet fleet
among major U.S. airlines. With 48,000 employees, Continental is one of the
"100 Best Companies to Work For in America." Fortune ranked Continental the
No. 2 Most Admired Global Airline and No. 30 Most Admired Global Company in
March 2002. For more company information, visit continental.com .

Any Chance of CO Connection getting ERJ-135s anytime soon?

I would highly doubt Commutair ever getting an aircraft type big enough for an onboard FA, let alone ERJs. As far as I know B1900s is the only a/c type they have ever operated.

When and if the route requires larger planes, Express will step in and operate an ERJ on the route. I see ALB getting service to IAH soon to help the micro-hub fill seats from the South. Commutair is a niche airline and they do a great job flying the Northeast corridor in 19 seat planes. Seeing them grow in the 19 seat market is welcome news.

Actually flown: EMB-120 EMB-145 B717 B737 B757 B767

Commutair needs the Beech to guarantee survival. Their planes are on average less than 2/3 full, but you need way less than that to break-even...
