Well, of course not. However, anyone watching the news last night on the local ABC affiliate, KGO-TV San Francisco, could have thought so. During a story on the impact United's next round of cuts may have on the Bay Area, they not only showed file footage of a vintage 727 in the old livery:
Anybody else see this? It was really one of the lamest reports I've seen on a major network station's newscast. In addition to dragging out the old footage -- why didn't they show a DC-8, they used to be quite common at SFO -- they also had some commentary from Ron Wilson, who was unidentified. Wilson was forced out of his job at SFO spokesman months ago!
Really quite something as the report also included some sound bites from the current SFO duty manager and the usual silly remarks from UAL passengers waiting in line at check-in. For heaven's sake, they were AT the airport, all you have to do at SFO to get great shots of dozens of current UAL airliners is just stick the damned camera out any window!

they do it becuase 95%+ of the veiwing audience neither know nor cares. last night they were talking about cuts here at Indy, and they showed a 75 in the old scheme. Now having comments from a person no longer with the company... thats just shoddy reporting.

A couple months ago here in Phoenix, a local news station had a story on America West. They ran old footage of an America West Dash-8 in old livery, which dates back to the late 80's.

The local TV stations here in Chicago do the same thing, although they don't show UA planes in old colors. They do however show footage of 727's, 732's and DC-10's which are long gone.

The local NBC affiliate here in New Orleans ran a story about the airport a couple of weeks ago, and trotted out footage of a DL 737-200 landing here, a sight we haven't seen in quite a few years.
It's known as "File Footage", and Doug_Or is quite correct: 95% of the population either can't tell the difference or doesn't care. The only ones that do are the ones like us who live and breathe this stuff.

BlatantEcho, it was back in the summer that SFO made the bonehead move of canning Mr. Wilson --

When I was there last month,I saw a 727 that was painted 'San Fransisco Airport' on it. I imagine its used for fire fighting/law enforcement.

I've seen the ex-NBC affiliate in the Bay Area, KRON, show footage of DC-10s. It's outdated, but quite frankly, I entertain the idea of old video...the only chance to see a UA DC-10!
