JetBlue Airways Confirms JFK-Burlington Service to Commence in The Fall

New York, NY (February 29, 2000) – JetBlue Airways’ CEO David Neeleman joined Governor Dean today to announce that the airline will inaugurate a unique brand of low fares and superior service -- with brand new jets -- from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Burlington in the fall.

“Governor Dean and Burlington’s entire Congressional delegation has created the model for other cities to replicate to attract low-fare air service. We’re very enthusiastic about starting service to Burlington and feel very much at home here thanks to the extensive efforts of the Governor, Senator Leahy, Senator Jeffords, Congressman Sanders, Mayor Clavelle and JJ Hamilton here at the airport.”

Considered to be the nation’s first “mega start-up” airline, with $130 million in equity capital, JetBlue’s fleet will comprise up to 82 new Airbus A-320s, among the world’s quietest, most emission-friendly passenger jets. The company also will be the first carrier to equip its jetliners with 24-channels of LiveTV in-flight satellite television at every seat. Despite these state-of-the-art conveniences, JetBlue's fares will be up to 65% percent less than other airlines on identical routes.

Mr Neeleman added: “We’re a new kind of low-fare airline, with deep pockets, new planes, leather seats with more legroom, great people and innovative thinking. We’re going to bring humanity back to air travel.”

JetBlue had previously committed to serving Burlington within a year of its launch of service, or by February, 2001. The airline commenced service to Fort Lauderdale on February 11, to Buffalo on February 17, and will launch flights to Tampa on March 16. In addition to Burlington, the airline has also committed to serving Rochester and Syracuse, NY, by mid-2001.

The airline plans to serve thirty cities in its first three years of service. In addition to the cities already announced, JetBlue is considering service to: Atlanta; Boston; Canton/Akron, Charleston, SC; Charleston, WV; Charlotte; Chicago; Cincinnati; Cleveland; Columbia, SC; Columbus, OH; Dallas/Fort Worth; Dayton; Denver; Flint; Ft. Myers; Grand Rapids, MI; Greensboro, NC; Greenville/Spartanburg; Houston; Indianapolis; Jacksonville, FL; Louisville; Memphis; Milwaukee; Minneapolis/St Paul; Nashville; New Orleans; Norfolk; Orlando; Pittsburgh; Portland, ME; Raleigh/Durham; Richmond; Salt Lake City; Savannah; Tampa; Washington, DC; and, West Palm Beach.

I hope in the future they have JFK to ALB service. Lots of passengers like myself, prefer jet aircraft over turboprops on this route.

I do believe that they will start serving ALB in the near future. I think that was on their list, if not, it will be.

They have to pacify those in Congress that gave them the right to fly out of JFK. That's why I forsee ALB in their cards.
