Hello,
how many A340-600 has Cathay ordered and on which routes will they be deployed?
Do they have also some A340-500 on order?

Ciao

Yes that's very long indeed!!

Anyone know the distance from the cockpit to the main gears?

The A346 will be deployed on HKG-TPE all December for crew familiarisation and to keep the aircraft nearby in case of engineering issues. After that it will fly longhaul to LAX, starting 1-1-03 as CX880/CX881 departing Hong Kong Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

See my related post for the HKG-Taipei schedules.

Thanks for the replies.
Three examples are not so many.
I imagine that the high commonality degree with the existing A340-300 is so high that the cost won't be that much.
And I assume that CX will be able to order more if they will be pleased with the performance.

Another question: what will be the seating capacity of CX A346?

Ciao

Stefano

I'm reasonably sure that's what I've heard in this forum and some other places.

I'm right there with you tho... no idea why. I'll guess it has to do with cargo and range.

Both numbers are far lower than the Airbus number of 380.

You may want to double check me, but I'm sure 286 is what I've heard.

The plane is too long, it looks like a stick. Cathay should add more color on it to make it have a better look.

I don't think we'll be seeing the CX A340-600 at SFO anytime soon. The CX873/874 route should be flying the 747-400 given the large ex-pat Hong Kong community in the Bay Area (that includes me  Big grin ).

Isn't CX eventually going to use their A346's on the HKG-JFK route?
