Does anyone know why the problems that have plagued the delivery of the Cathay A340-600s does not seem to have affected Virgin's aircraft? Ours have been delayed for a few months now, and Virgin have had theirs for ages. I did hear that during a heavy landing there was some cracking/damage found around the wing spar area and that would delay things, but Virgin seemed to get their ontime whereas Cathay were told a while ago that theirs would be delayed. Any ideas?

Virgin Atlantic also received their first A340-600 a month later than originally planned (July instead of May). South African will also receive its first A340-600 two months later than planned due to completion of the aircraft's configuration to South African's specifications. The first A340-500 for Air Canada is scheduled for delivery four months behind schedule. So it's not only Cathay Pacific which is receiving its A340-600's later than planned. Last minute (minor) changes to the aircraft's design and a later certification than expected/planned were the main reasons for these delays as far as I remember.
