Yet another discount airline is hoping to squeeze into Germany's crowded skies next Spring.
Express-Airways, based in Troisdorf, is being formed by employees of failed carrier Farnair Germany GmbH, which is being liquidated by parent company Farnair Europe.
Spokesman Frank Hoeck said today (Monday) the plan is to lease 100-passenger BAE Avrojet 146 aircraft to fly passengers and freight around Germany's lesser known airports such as Augsburg, Luebeck and Braunschweig.
International destinations
The company hopes to add international destinations later, Hoeck said.
Express-Airways already has a website up listing fares and intended flight destinations, although Hoeck said the new company is still working with investors to secure financing and hasn't signed a leasing deal yet. Check out www.express-airways.com
If and when those details are worked out, Express-Airways will face fierce existing competition within Germany from existing operators. They include Germanwings - which is 25% owned by Lufthansa, DBA, Air Berlin, Germania and Hapag-Lloyd Express, a division of tourism giant TUI AG.

well, i have my doubts about their success.
this company seems to be very ambitious as many routes as they want to operate from the beginning:
CGN, AGB, SXF, Braunschweig, DRS, FKB, Lübeck and FMO
given their HQ is in Troisdorf i assume their operating base would be CGN, just like 4U and Hapag Lloyd Express. well, at least they wouldn´t be competing directly.
according to their website, they seem to be quite legitimate, but somehow i have my doubts that this is gonna take-off.
hopefully, i´ll be proven wrong.
cheers

If only pure sweetness was offered, why's this bitter taste left in my mouth.

That would be great to see some new service at Luebeck/Blankensee. I remember biking out to the airport once just in time to have the Bi-daily ryanair 737 on approach over my head. (that is the only normal service. There are a few charters a week)
