well, that´s an A330-200 in the picture, but anyways...
to overcome a lack of capacity, LH is leasing 5 A330-200s (ex-SR and -SN aircraft) and two additional A340-200s (ex-SN). i´m not sure, but i believe they will be leased from Airbus and will be operated for about a year. when the A340-600s arrive late 2003 and the A330-300s early 2004, LH will again have sufficient aircraft tp slowly phase out the leased one.
afaik, the first A332 is supposed to enter revenue service with LH the very first days of January.
the first destinations to receive these aircraft are supposed to be TLV, THR and some north american destinations, probably PHL.
cheers

LH is doing hips on its FRA-TLV route using the A343, the A332 might be too small in certain days of the week. ***
Would LH offer 1st class service on these a/c?
And what about the configuration?

true, but the A332 in two class config should offer about the same capacity than the 340s in three class config. and they´re more efficient on this short hop. well, they could always switch aircraft... but to me it seems that the A332 might be more profitable on this route, even if it meant carrying less pax.
there won´t be 1st class services on these aircraft. the basic SR and SN configurations will remain the same, although there are some minor changes due to some galley modifications, but no 1st class.

the SAA deal is up and running. the thing is, when LH ordered the A340-600s, this deal included that Airbus would take the A340-200s.
and it´s not LH leasing the A342s to SAA, it´s Airbus who is leasing these birds to SAA.
initially, LH was supposed to lease-back these A342s from early 2003 as long as they would need them. but now Airbus has already placed these A342s with SAA.
don´t ask me the details of this deal because i really don´t know all the clues. it does seem strange: if LH was intended to lease-back these aircraft, why have they now been placed with SAA?
i suppose that´s got something to do with 9-11 and the slump of air traffic and that LH didn´t think that they would recover so well so fast...
ok, cheers

The ex SN/SR planes will be repainted in full LH colours. The inside will continue to be as it is in SN/SR configuration/layout. Some minor updates will be done to the galleys. (Apparently the coffee machines are sub-LH-standard.)

Apparently the Airbus / SAA deal is so good, and it's a good opportunity to get rid of the 342s, which are not exactly sought after in the market.
LH will keep the two-class configuration of the SN/SR aircraft. That's why it is difficult to find suitable markets, e.g. most of the Middle East/Gulf markets that would be ideal range-wise, require First Class.

Thanx Daniel!
I would be astonished though if LH axed the F/cl services on its FRA-TLV route.
LH has a strong loyal circle of people who use this airline only for those kind of services (my father for instance).
I do realize that the A332 would be a more suited equipment for this route, from aspects of efficiency, but, I'm not sure about the configuration.
And as a side note, The C/cl in SR and SN ex-A330, is far better than LH's own product IMO.
SN ex-A332 has 62" pitch in C/cl vs. 48" on LH's A340 while SR ex-A332 has between 55" and 60".

That is great news , Can't wait to see LH colours in A332 . If they A332 suits them , any chance of them ordering A332s or converting their options to A332s ?

Sabena 690: I share your comments. Only difference: I have some pics of SN A330's. If you'd like I can always take some of them with me next time I see you...

Here are some more pictures of D-AIME in SN-Livery:
I´ve seen the bird in full Lufthansa livery yesterday, but unfortunately it was standing next to a VIP 747-SP, and taking photos of VIP airplanes is not allowed on the LH Base. I hope I can take some pictures tomorrow...
