In this this thread, I gave an update to the SQ situation but feel it's worthy of it's own post.

SQ are to operate 744s on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays via BRU but are to introduce non-stop 772 services on the other 4 days.

David

In addition, it seems that all flights are now to be SQ327 and SQ328.

In addition, the 772 will have this cabin layout with the revolutionary and widest and largest business class bed - SPACEBED - pictured below on 9V-SVH. Hopefully with more appropriate cushions and headrest covers.

SQ is giving up on their highly profitable BOM-MAN rights? Interesting....

I wouldn't have thought they would give up the lucrative BOM-MAN rights in favour of direct 772 flights to MAN from SIN!! Then again who am I to say what is right or wrong?  Smile

Looking at the Spacebed Deployment schedule, it says that SIN-MAN will be a daily flight with B777 wef 31Mar03... I think it could highly be possible that this is a flight on its own.

It could be possible that this is a service on its own. Twice daily to MAN with one non-stop flight sounds feasible.

Hopefully with more appropriate cushions and headrest covers.

Don't worry, they'll have to CHANGE the cushions and headrest covers.

I'm sure SQ wo't give up the Mumbai - Manchester flight. That's quite a profitable one. What about loads between Brussels and Manchester?

This is great news. MAN needs more regular 777's. With virually no 777 movements all summer, DL are the only ones now operating here on a regular basis after they switched back from MD-11s. It is nice that they are using them as well as, rather than instead or, the 744s.

I don't think SIA will give up BOM-MAN.

I flew on that route from Singapore but I was going to BOM. It was a 744 and the flight was packed with people. When we arrived in BOM most people stayed on the aircraft and flew to MAN. I flew flown on a 744 many times and I would say that flight was the fullest I have ever seen.

SIA has to be making money on this route. Also I am sure a lot of east-Indians use SIA on BOM-MAN route. There is a huge east-Indian community up there too. I am still surprised AI doesn't fly the route yet.

United777,
The MAN-BOM route is dropped with the start of the Summer timetable.

The summer timetable for MAN is as follows:
4 weekly B777-200 MAN-SIN JY
3 weekly B747-400 MAN-BRU-SIN FJY

|The are schedules on the Singapore Airlines website.

The Manchester-Bombay route is well outside the scope of Singapore Airlines core operations of feeding passengers into the Singapore hub and onwards to other destinations. With Malaysia Airlines now operating nonstop flights into Kuala Lumpur, Singapore Airlines nonstop flights to Singapore are a competitive reasponse. The stops either in Europe or Bombay add around 2 hours to the journey time of an already long flight!

That is a good looking pick of SQ's 777.

Following Galileo, SQ is adding a 4th flight to Brussels, via Manchester.

So maybe three flights on 772 and the other four on 744?

Regards,
Frederic

Frederic,
Sounds like a glitch with Galileo. Singapore Airlines website is showing Manchester flights as listed above for the whole summer, 3 x B747 via BRU, 4 x B777 nonstop, and Brussels as 3 weekly nonstop B747 flights.

My perspective on this is that it is partly a competitive response to MAS, but SQ also appears to have decided to focus on its primary market ex-MAN - which is VFR and leisure traffic to Australia/NZ and SE Asia - and to offer a product that was consistent with this focus. By the way, the BOM-MAN vv sector is profitable, but not as wildly lucrative as some members of this forum seem to think it is!

Digging up an old thread..

According to the Spacebed deployment chart.. MAN will be ops by 9V-SVN and 9V-SVM.
