(If I'm wrong please correct me)
If I'm not wrong, regional jet flights (both RJ and turboprop) start at six in the morning and end at 9-10 at night.
My simple question is, why doesn't the major airlines operate their regional jets late at night/dawn?
I came up with this question because I was on a first Mesa Airlines flight that departed at 6am. Looking at the schedules of the airlines on the television, our flight was the first regional flight to leave the airport.
Also, how does America West and Mesa Airlines schedule their regional jet (frequencies and times of departure)

Comair has some very late 11:00pm'ish departures from CVG. These are mainly short flights, but a couple are pretty long. For example there is a CRJ flight to Miami that departs at 11:10pm and arrives at 1:39am the next day. Also ASA has some late 11:30ish from ATL to mainly regional destinations.
Comair also used to operate TUL-LAS-TUL redeyes. The first leg departed at about 11:00 at night and arrived in LAS at about 1:00am. The flight left Las Vegas at about 1:30am and arrived at about 6:00am. But those dropped about a year ago.

For Continental, most of the RJ type flights are to connect people in smaller places to and from the longhauls etc. As these longhauls don't leave really early or really late at night, there is no need to run redeyes to the small cities

My RJ flight from ATL-MLB was delayed until 3:00am one time. I thought I had missed the flight because it wasn't posted anywhere, but sure enough, it was still on the ground waiting to depart out of Concourse E (for some odd reason).

Well... out of San Francisco, our last RJ departures are at about 2010 and 2015 (flights to SBA and BOI respectively), which arrive at SBA at 2111 and BOI at 2255 (time change for BOI).
Out of LAX, there is a 2215 departure to PHX that arrives at 12:37am. It just seems that RJ pilots don't have to work as odd hours as our Brasilia crews do in SFO (the late night push has 6 departures from 10:41pm to 10:55pm).
