It's such a classic, I love the look of the nose, pointing at the departure lounge where you can peer into the first class cabin. So many times I've sat waiting for the boarding to be called, late at night in Singapore, Athens, Sydney, JFK, Hong Kong, with the big whale sitting at the gate waiting to push back and take me off somewhere.
Speaking of the first public viewing, before it was introduced people were freaked out by the size of it (considering it was, like, 2 and a half times bigger than the 707 or DC8). In Boston a residents association tried to ban it cos they said it would block out the sun and plunge them all into nighttime as it flew past. I don't even think the Titanic would do that if it flew overhead at 200mph, but in 1968 no-one had experienced or seen an aircraft anything like as big as the 747-100.

For me it’s the B747 and everything else doesn’t count.
But may I ask what are we celebrating here?
According to Boeing web site these are the important events and dates for B741:

Avi,
The day I posted this thread the network CNBC said today, Dec 2 is the 33rd anniversary of the 1st public viewing of the B 747..
Looks like they were wrong or, at the very least, stating an unimportant date...
Sorry
