good evening...

i am involved in some trivia at work where a question was posed to me and i could not even begin to suggest an answer as i have no idea.... can anyone help with these two questions....

1) what year did Orville and Wilbur Wright die and of what in each case?

2) who was the first person to die in a commercial aeroplane accident. (notice i wrote "aeroplane"!)

thanks for your help on thses two questions.... i will share my prize of "free coffee for a week" with everyone!

ohhh... no need to say "is that your final answer"? :-)

Okay:

1.Wilbur Wright died on May 20, 1912 at 3:15AM, Orville Wright died in 1948, I don't have the exact date.

2.The first person to die, that's tough. One could say Otto Lilenthal was the first, he was an associate of the Wrights (later turned out to be the major problem to their wing design) he died before the first flight in his glider.

3.If you want to know the name of the first passenger killed I'm not sure. I do remember that it was in a Wright model "B" it was a non-rev flight for someone's army (I think France or Spain) and the plane crashed and killed the observer.

4.I'll take mine with cream and 2 sugars.

Peter

The first person to die in an aeroplane crash was one Thomas Selfridge, a US Army officer (in 1908 - I think). The Wrights were demonstrating their 'plane to the Army and Selfridge was a passenger. A propellor dsintegrated and cut one of the bracing wires causing a wing to collapse. Selfridge was crushed under the engine. However, as for the first person to die in commercial aircraft accident.....?
