Early season snowstorm moving up the U.S. East Coast. Presently EWR experiencing up to 4 hour delays. Many cancellations and diversions inevitable. Right now snow is coming down very heavy. Takeoffs averaging only 1 every 10 minutes.

Yeah, looks like a mess out East today. There were however some flights that were able to leave either early or on time late this morning.

Its better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than be in the air wishing you were on the ground. Fly safe!

Yep, it's still coming down pretty heavily here in northern NJ.

I live in the approach path to EWR and I haven't heard anything today (I'm stuck at home).

its been horrible at PHL, arriving flts are receiving delays of 4-8 hours. Earlier visibility was probably down to about 1/2 mile

Hey,

few minutes ago, they have closed RWY4R. The traffic is bad. I listen to EWR TWR (121.800) all day long. Many planes are stuck, waiting for their turn. Living in Woodbrdige, which is some 7 NM from EWR it is very quiet today.

There was one COA flight, which was waiting for their gate more than 20min. Also, TWR said that the delay was about 1.5 to 2 hrs.

Cheers,

Andrej L.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

PS Today is my B-day!

NW cancelled most of the DTW-EWR flights today. The have one operating this evening....they are sub-ing in a 757-300, not a regular visitor to EWR, needed for capacity since all others were cancelled today, it should be en-route now.

Two interesting diversions due to the white-out situation at EWR:

Continental PTY-EWR diverted to CHS
Continental SJU-EWR diverted to PIT
USAirways CLT-EWR diverted to BNA (tho that might be mechanical...)

7 inches officially as of 8PM at LGA, and snowfall amounts range from 6-10 inches all over the area. I was looking at all the inbound and outbound LGA/JFK/EWR flights on airport monitor earlier, and traffic was way down...

I work for the State in Downtown Newark (Halsey Street), the State let us go early at 2PM. I didn't get home (Manalapan, Monmouth County) until 4:30, usually at rush hour it takes me an hour and 10 minutes to get home.

The Turnpike was fine but from exit 11 to the Raritan tollplaza took over an hour, they didn't plow the Parkway and they only had 4 toll lanes open at the Raritan toll plaza.

When I got to Ronkonkoma station about 7 this evening, there were probably 50 to 75 people with luggage, who'd obviously just gotten into ISP and were waiting for the next train to Penn.

FAA is reporting that delays at EWR today are less that 15 minutes on average. Pretty good when compared to LaGuardia - which is experiencing average delays of over an hour.

BOS saw some nice diversions yesterday, most likely from EWR and/or JFK:

Aeromar 762 (JFK)
Continental 757 (EWR)
Privatair 737BBK (EWR---the LH DUS-EWR flight?)

I wonder why they just didn't put the SJU flight into CLE. I mean they diverted all the way to PIT, why not put it into CLE where they have a hub and probably could have better handled the situtation?

because theere wasn't much of a reason to fly into CLE, they landed in PIT, no big deal, they were at PIT for a few hours and then got on their way to EWR. There's no reason to fly to CLE, the flt wasn't cancelled, just merely diverted at which point the airline would have to worry about getting the pax to the original destination. Flying to a hub would just cost more money, for no reason

kinda worded my last statement funny, i just meant that the flt wasn't cancelled so at PIT the airline did not have to worry about getting the pax to the original destination by some means of transportation
